The end of Resident Evil 7 stirred up a massive conspiracy regarding the identity of Chris Redfield. Although Capcom has added fuel to the fire the game director of Resident Evil 7 went on record before the release of the free DLC expansion, Not a Hero, to confirm why Chris Redfield looked different from the previous games. Now we know that Chris whether Chris Redfield is who he says he is.
It's confirmed later on in the DLC that Umbrella is no longer the same pharmaceutical company responsible for the creation of the T-Virus. Former employees have recreated the company as a private military group for righting Umbrella's wrongs and fighting biological weapons.
Chris has joined the organization but still doesn't trust them. However, he's willing to cooperate if it means that people like the Bakers don't happen to other people. It was also confirmed that Umbrella does hire questionable people, with Chris noting whether the company would take on Lucas Baker as an employee considering his computer skills and connection to the organization he's now working for.
Regardless, Not a Hero plays a big role in establishing a new enemy and solidifying Umbrella's new existence. This new enemy called The Connections who has tremendous interest in what was unleashed on the Baker family.
Resident Evil 7 is available now for PC, PS4, PlayStation VR, and Xbox One. The Gold Edition is now available and includes all previously released DLC.
