You can upgrade your gear at the Workbench in the Batcave or at Bat-Mite’s Shop. You need WayneTech Caches to buy these. Since you play as Batman the most, upgrade his tools first.

Do not save your points for the expensive, bottom-tier abilities. They often fail to work right and use up all your focus meter. Stick to the cheaper upgrades for better results.

Combat and Stealth Upgrades

The Perch Takedown is a must if you like staying out of sight. It lets you take down enemies from a high spot without being seen. You will feel like you are missing a key tool until you unlock this, so get it early in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

If you fight many enemies with shields, get the Vault Slam. It lets you attack while you jump over an enemy. This move deals high damage and often knocks out normal enemies in one hit. It does not use your focus meter and even works on bosses.

Environmental Upgrades

The Batclaw Fling is great for controlling your surroundings. Once you hit an enemy with the Batclaw, this upgrade lets you throw them in any direction you choose. You can use this to toss enemies off roofs or into hazards.
