Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Guide | How to Find and Catch Ditto
Catch Ditto fast by hunting its disguises near towns and spotting odd behavior.

Ditto is one of the most wanted Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. It is fun to use because it can transform into other Pokémon in battle. It is also the best breeding partner for almost any Pokémon. If you want to hatch eggs or build competitive Pokémon, Ditto is a key catch.
Ditto Works Differently In Scarlet And Violet
In older Pokémon games, you could often see Ditto as a purple blob in the overworld. In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, Ditto hides in plain sight. Because it can transform, it disguises itself as other wild Pokémon. You will not know it is Ditto just by looking at it. You need to start a battle, and then it will reveal itself by transforming.

Best Location To Search For Ditto
A reliable place to hunt Ditto is near towns and cities. A strong spot is around Medali, which sits near the center of the map. Open your map, zoom out, and head to Medali to begin searching nearby fields. This area gives you plenty of wild Pokémon spawns and makes it easier to check groups for strange movement.

The Trick To Spotting A Disguised Ditto
The key is behavior. Look for a Pokémon that is acting unusually compared to the others of the same species. If there is a group, check if one is moving differently, walking away, or acting out of sync. That “weird” one is often the disguised Ditto. Engage it to confirm. Once the battle starts, it will transform, revealing that it was Ditto the whole time.

How To Catch Ditto More Safely
When the battle begins, Ditto may copy the Pokémon you send out first. A simple approach is to start with a weak Pokémon, so Ditto copies weak moves. Then switch into a stronger helper Pokémon to control the fight.

A good option is a Pokémon that can inflict status effects, such as paralysis, to make catching easier. After that, switch into a Pokémon that knows False Swipe so you can drop Ditto to 1 HP without knocking it out. Then throw a strong ball like an Ultra Ball and keep trying until it stays in.
