Here's a guide on how to search the Monastery for Sam in Tomb Raider.

In this part of the game, you'll explore the Monastery during the Going Back In mission. Your goal is to find Sam by moving through guarded halls and staying out of fights with tough enemies.

Initial Path and Barricade

Go forward and take a left after a short walk. You'll spot some enemies ahead, but you can ignore them since they'll leave soon. Once they're gone, head into the room they left. Shoot a fire arrow at the wooden barricade to clear your way.

Stealth Passage Through the Great Hall

Go through the narrow tunnel you just opened. You'll come into a big hall with ancient warriors on patrol. As Lara says, don't fight them.

Take cover right away. Move slowly to the right and stay hidden. When you reach the upper balcony, turn left and cross the wooden beam. Head to the upper edge and grab it.

Platforming Escape

Traverse to move right along the edge. When you get to the end, jump right into the bigger hole in the wall. As soon as you land, run toward the screen and hold the down key.

You'll start a slide sequence—just make it through to finish this part and get 100 XP, Vance, and Enemy Engagement.

After the slide, go east. You'll run into your first group of ancient guards. Don't get too close—they have katanas and hit hard. Keep your distance and use your shotgun or rifle. Aim for their heads.

Resource Gathering and Progression

Once you beat the first guards, keep moving forward. Look around for ammo crates to refill your supplies for the next battles. You'll also find a new base camp called Sheltered Hallway. Take a break here—this camp unlocks the ninth of Lara's Journals. An Approach to the Exit

Keep going southeast. Soon, you'll come to a locked door. Use your climbing axe as usual to break it open. Head outside to start your next mission objectives.
