Here's a guide on how to beat Mistress of the Night – Huang Yan in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
Game Guide by TauxicPandA on Jul 26, 2025
Huang Yan, known as the Mistress of the Night, presents a moderate challenge that becomes significantly easier when approached with the right strategy and equipment in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
This frost-wielding sorceress mixes dangerous close-range attacks with corruption-based magic. Preparation and positioning are key to winning this fight.

Location and Access
You can find Huang Yan in Cloudspire at the Snowfall Palace. From the shrine, take the right path and then go up the main staircase.
Pass through the door and descend via the elevator, then open the large gate to access the boss arena.
Before engaging in combat, consider completing the children's gang questline to obtain the Brital Attire.
If you've acquired this wedding attire by finding Glut, you can present it to Huang Yan before the battle begins. She appears as an NPC on the Snowfall Palace rooftop, accessible by climbing the stairs from the shrine in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
Note that she vanishes as an interactive character once you initiate the boss encounter.
Recommended Equipment and Build
Magic paired with a one-handed sword, specifically the Astral Blade, proves most effective against this opponent.
The fight becomes considerably more manageable when you respec your character to focus on Feathering Magic and One-Handed Weapon skills.
Equip armor with the highest Corruption resistance available, as Huang Yan's primary attacks inflict both Corruption and Frostbite status effects.
Your defensive preparation directly impacts your chances of survival throughout the encounter.

Skill Tree Configuration
Redistribute your skill points to maximize Feathering magic, since the Echo of Soulwood spell scales with this attribute.
From the left skill tree, acquire Fury of the Skyborn and maintain your Madness above 50% to reduce all spell costs by one Skyborn Might point. This reduction makes Echo of Soulwood cost only one Skyborn Might instead of two.
Purchase the Bone Needle – Arcane from the left skill tree to enhance your magic damage when combined with the Temperance item. The Biding Time skill in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers ensures your Skyborn Might automatically regenerates during combat.
Combat Strategy
Huang Yan constantly repositions herself away from melee attackers to cast spells, making close-range combat frustrating and inefficient.
Her purple orbs deal devastating damage at close range and can instantly eliminate you if they connect.
Maintain distance from your opponent and spam the Echo of Soulwood spell repeatedly. From range, Huang Yan remains relatively stationary and poses minimal threat.
Her spell attacks become predictable and manageable to dodge when you keep enough distance between yourself and her position.
Phase Transition and Fox Form
When Huang Yan's health falls below 50%, she often changes into a fox form and flies straight toward you. Look for the fox to pull its head back, as this indicates an incoming attack in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
Time your dodge rolls with this movement to avoid damage. Once she turns back into human form, quickly start casting Echo of Soulwood again to keep up the pressure and damage.

Corruption Mechanics
The Echo of Soulwood spell builds corruption on both you and Huang Yan when cast in rapid succession.
Despite her use of corruption-based attacks, Huang Yan remains surprisingly vulnerable to corruption effects, taking approximately 100 damage per second from the status ailment.
Allow your Skyborn Might to fully charge before unleashing rapid spell combinations to build corruption more quickly on your target.
The superior damage output of Echo of Soulwood compared to Vorpal Blade compensates for any self-inflicted corruption damage, especially when you maintain high Corruption Resistance.
During Skyborn Might regeneration periods, Huang Yan continues suffering from accumulated corruption damage, providing consistent pressure even when you cannot actively cast spells in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.

Rewards
Victory against Huang Yan yields several valuable items: Research Journal – Scrap 1 (quest item), Shell Cup (Tao Qing item), Spell: Echo of Huang Yan, and the Mistress of the Night – Huang Yan trophy in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
