You'll encounter your first boss at Worship's Rise in the Reverent Temple after speaking with the Boatman NPC in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. This creature jumps around the arena and attacks with water jets, serving as your introduction to boss combat mechanics.
You'll need to learn positioning and timing to defeat it, because your health is limited at this point in the game. This encounter teaches you the basic combat skills you'll use throughout your journey.

Location and Prerequisites
You'll face this boss at Worship's Rise in the Reverent Temple area. The fight starts automatically after you talk to the Boatman NPC.
Be aware that this is a one-time encounter - if you fall during the battle, the boss disappears permanently and cannot be fought again in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
Consider backing up your save file before initiating the conversation with the Boatman NPC if you want the option to retry the encounter.
Difficulty Assessment
This encounter rates a 6 out of 10 in difficulty. The boss mechanics are straightforward, but your weak state at this point in the game makes positioning and patience necessary for success.

Combat Strategy
The battle begins with two smaller human enemies that you must defeat before the main boss appears. After you take care of these initial foes, the primary opponent will spawn and start its attack in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
Your opponent is very mobile and constantly leaps around the arena to reposition itself. Focus on timing your dodges and landing only one to two quick strikes before retreating to safety.
Never try to trade blows or extend your combos beyond this limit, as greed will likely lead to your defeat.
Positioning is crucial in this encounter in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Always move behind or to the sides of the boss before launching your attacks.

Standing directly in front of it will leave you vulnerable to its offensive capabilities. The creature has difficulty turning quickly while executing its attacks, so maintaining position behind it provides a safe zone for your counterattacks.
Your health pool is extremely limited at this stage, requiring you to avoid approximately four hits to survive the encounter.
Use healing items immediately when you take damage to maintain your survivability. Before the boss fight, scour the area for Steamed Bunny Buns, which appear as blue items scattered on the ground in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
These consumables can be assigned to your quick-use slots and provide healing over time, effectively giving you five additional healing opportunities.
Attack Patterns and Exploitation
The boss occasionally fires a water projectile in your direction. When you see this attack coming, dodge sideways through the stream and immediately circle behind the creature.
During this water jet attack, the boss becomes completely immobilized and vulnerable, allowing you to land a whole combination of strikes safely.
The enemy's moveset is relatively limited in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, making pattern recognition straightforward once you observe its behavior for a few cycles.
As you become familiar with its attack telegraphs, dodging becomes significantly more manageable and predictable.

Rewards
Victory against this tutorial boss grants you 5x Red Mercury Essence. Each essence provides 400 Mercury experience points, totaling 2000 XP points that translates to 5 skill points for character progression.
While this may seem modest, these early skill points are valuable for improving your capabilities in the challenges ahead in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
