AMD is taking bold moves in the portable industry. Devices such as the MSI Claw 8 are already showcasing the newest Z2 Extreme processor. Early performance comparisons against Intel's Lunar Lake platform show Z2 Extreme taking the lead in most scenarios.

At both 17W and 30W power draws, AMD's chip is consistently outperforming Intel's offering in nearly every game tested, including major titles like Cyberpunk and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. However, in terms of power efficiency, the two are nearly equal. Lunar Lake offers exceptional efficiency, making it competitive in terms of battery life.

But Z2 Extreme provides a better overall gaming experience. The real decider might be pricing, as the handheld with the best performance-per-dollar could sway buyers.

So far, there's no confirmed US release for a Z2 Extreme handheld, although rumors suggest the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally X might be powered by it, potentially launching on August 20th. We'll be watching Gamescom for updates.

Silverstone Powers Up with New PSUs

If handhelds aren't your thing and you're more into desktop gaming rigs, there's good news in the PSU space. Silverstone has unveiled its new Triton series of ATX power supplies. These Gold-rated units are designed for builders looking for solid reliability and performance.

The Triton 650RX, 750RX, and 850RX are in the lineup. They all come with a 450W 12V-2x6 cable and support the ATX3.1 standard, making them perfect for contemporary mid-range GPUs.

Their compact 140mm depth and 120mm ICB cooling fans ensure quiet operation and easy installation in most cases.

Silverstone also took care to style the fixed cables with a sleek black embossed finish that mimics premium sleeved setups. These are dependable, efficient PSUs from a brand that's been doing this longer than some of today's popular names.

RX 9060: AMD's Budget GPU Option

We're finally getting clear details on the RX 9060 GPU. Many had been confused due to naming issues with the RX 9060 XT, especially the 8GB version.

The real RX 9060 appears to be a trimmed-down version of the XT, with a few notable differences. It has 8GB of GDDR6 memory running at 18Gbits/s, down from the 20Gbits/s found on the XT version.

That translates to a memory bandwidth of 288GB/s, compared to 320GB/s on RX 9060 XT. The core count looks to be the same at 48, but the RX 9060 will likely run at a lower clock speed, making it a generally slower card overall. Price-wise, it seems unlikely AMD would ask more than $249 for this GPU, although a $279 price tag is possible.

It is anticipated that the RX 9060 will ship in Q3, most likely before the end of September. Because of its mid-range price, it might not receive a significant release event, but we'll be keeping an eye on how reviews and pricing develop.

AMD Super X3D CPUs Are Coming

Interesting things are happening in AMD's CPU business. According to leaks, AMD is getting ready to release a new generation of X3D processors with significant enhancements.

A Ryzen 7 X3D processor with specs comparable to the current 9800X3D might be on the horizon, potentially going by the moniker 9700X3D. But the major headline is a possible 16-core, 32-thread, 200W CPU featuring a whopping 192MB of L3 cache.

That's double the cache of the 9800X3D, indicating AMD may finally be putting 3D V-Cache on both core clusters. This change would eliminate the need for core parking or any special Windows settings. AMD has changed its strategy after claiming in the past that the market was too small for such a move.

High-end enthusiasts would probably choose such a processor because it would be ideal for productivity and gaming. This might be what you've been looking for if you want the best performance possible without sacrificing anything.
