Australia-based developer Drop Bear Bytes is a new name in the gaming industry. Yet, they are already popular among those tracking their ongoing project, Broken Roads, which was announced last year in November. But what's so special about this project, since so many RPG games are being released regularly?

Imagine a post-apocalyptic world with profound conversations, practical philosophy, and craziness that is wired in Australia. Yes, these are all the bags of this game. The project's creative lead, Colin McComb, known for his work on Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment, Wasteland 2, and Torment: Tides of Numenera, says the game has it all. It's an advanced role-playing game that relies on narrative.

Playable in a brand-new post-apocalyptic scenario in Australia, Broken Roads is a narrative-driven role-playing game that features exploration, strategic turn-based combat, and deep philosophical decisions. Broken Roads deftly combines classic and modern role-playing features atop a classless system that provides practically endless possibilities for character development based on four philosophies: Humanist, Utilitarian, Machiavellian, and Nihilist.

As an added bonus, players can experience a novel morality system called the Moral Compass in this game. This system allows players to shape their characters' philosophical leanings and the difficult decisions they face during quests through dialogue options and questing selections.

All of the locales in Broken Roads are genuine recreations that the production team produced by traveling to several towns and sites in Western Australia and gathering photographs, films, and audio recordings to maintain the highest level of authenticity possible. Even the ambient music, written by Tim Sunderland, uses instruments made from commonplace items, giving the game a tone that is completely its own.

A statement was made by Craig Ritchie, Game Director of Drop Bear Bytes, expressing gratitude for the community's understanding as they allowed Broken Roads to receive the necessary polish and attention throughout development. Broken Roads has been fine-tuned and improved to its highest possible level, with additional voice acting, over 400,000 words of conversation, and over 150,000 possible ending combinations. And playing Breaking Roads should be a blast, according to Craig.

This isometric role-playing game, Breaking Roads, will be released on April 10 for PlayStation and Xbox, with a Nintendo Switch port shortly after that.
