Perhaps you've heard of 2013's massively multiplayer online (MMO) game Defiance; maybe you even checked out SyFy's tie-in series, also titled Defiance. Did you like it? Maybe, or maybe not. As reviews were mixed, it's quite possible that you overlooked the futuristic multiplayer game.
On top of its MMO features, Defiance is an open-world shooter, featuring character customization, alien weaponry and vehicles designed for future earth's landscape. Exploring the landscape is half of the appeal, and apparently Defiance "is the game that defines MASSIVE CO-OP."
Trion Worlds has announced that Defiance will be going free-to-play this summer for PC, PlayStation 3 and possibly Xbox 360. Those that have purchased Defiance will be getting some extra perks when the game releases as free-to-play, and similar to many other free-to-play games, Defiance will offer players an optional subscription that will include some added bonuses.
You may ask, "Why is Defiance going free-to-play?" Many speculations can be made, however, Trion Worlds was nice enough to explain the move:
Free is better! As we head toward Season 2 of the Defiance television show, we expect that many new fans will want to join the world of Defiance, and having a system that allows them to experience the Defiance universe for free is good for everyone.
Defiance will go free-to-play on June 4 for PC, with an estimated July 15 release for PlayStation 3 and sometime in July for Xbox 360.
