When EA let people into the Battlefield 6 beta earlier this month, fans rushed in with excitement. Before the servers even went live, thousands of players lined up, making it the biggest beta in the franchise's history. However, despite the size and show, long-time fans didn't quite feel right about it. What was the problem? The way the game played out felt too much like Call of Duty, which was unusual.

Gamers quickly noticed that things like bunny hopping, jump shots, and side-shooting were the most critical parts of matches. Instead of the planned, large-scale tactical warfare that Battlefield is known for, players saw squads bouncing around, sliding across the ground, and landing perfect shots in mid-air. For many people who have played the series before, this chaotic arcade feel didn't align with what the franchise is all about.

Big Changes to Battlefield 6, Changes to movement, fixes for parachutes, a push for tactical gameplay

Sources indicate that EA has taken the criticism to heart and implemented significant changes to the game's gameplay. One of the most important improvements is in the speed at which things move. The momentum has been lowered, so sliding into a jump will no longer chain endlessly.

Players who try to jump over and over again will now be punished: each hop will be lower, making "bunny hopping" much less helpful. On top of that, jumping or sliding accuracy goes down a lot, which takes away the edge that flashy trick shots had in the beta.

The physics of parachutes has also been changed. No more flying through the air too quickly. The initial speed up when deploying a parachute has been slowed down, which makes descents feel more grounded and controlled. This change indicates that EA aims for Battlefield 6 to feature a more realistic combat style, where aerial maneuvers aren't just about speed but also about positioning and strategy.

There is a clear goal behind these updates: Battlefield 6 wants to stay true to its roots. This game differs from fast-paced games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, or Apex Legends in its choice of Battlefield. It's one of tactical pacing, teamwork, and making wise decisions. Instead of giving out prizes for quick reflexes and crazy stunts, EA is focusing on the slower, more methodical combat that long-time fans love.

This move raises an important question: Will today's shooter fans, accustomed to flashy moves and super-fast gunfights, appreciate the return to realism? Modern players have grown accustomed to frenetic styles of play.  But for fans of Battlefield, this change of course might feel like a breath of fresh air. EA is saying that not every shooter needs to follow the popular arcade-style formula, focusing instead on immersion and tactical gameplay.

Battlefield has always been about the conflict between realism and chaos. EA is betting that fans will like a game that stands out from the competition rather than one that blends in. It will depend on how players react when the full release comes out, if this gamble pays off or not.

So here's the big question: will Battlefield 6 be the grounded, tactical shooter fans have been waiting for, or will players go back to the fast and furious playgrounds of its competitors?
