GamersGate Achieves Steamy Improvements

GamersGate, the digital download outlet that isn’t Steam, is recently been going strong and butting heads with the media giant. GG offers frequent deals since some time now and has been constantly trying to cater to its audience with great offers. But they’re also trying to update their platform itself and they’re headed for the steamy jugular.

Among a myriad of design improvements to their site, the most recognizable will have to be the long-awaited addition of Achievements. Yup, everyone likes virtual kudos that are worth nothing and GG has them now as well. Secondly, they’re also adding a cute little minion linked to your profile that levels as you gain experience on the site. This isn’t as superfluous as you think though, as it can grant you special offers and discounts with its experience!

Last month, the digital outlet also announced that it will be launching a way to play major releases for free on its platform! FreeGames allows users to play and enjoy both PC and Mac titles free of charge after watching a short advertisement at the launch of the game. Gamers will be able to have up to five games available for free on their account at any time with the capability to add additional games.

Apart from what I just blatantly ripped off up there, the press release also had this to say: “The new service offers the best of both worlds for both gamers and publishers,” said Theodore Bergquist, CEO at GamersGate. “Gamers can play games for free, catch up on franchises or try a game out before they buy. Publishers will receive ad revenue while expanding their audience. We’ve always been at the forefront of the digital delivery business and I’m confident that our new service will help reshape the industry.”

Does Steam have free games? Well, yes, actually it does; but not these ones! Free MMO’s are always free, but this could potentially be big. High five for you GamersGate, stick it to the man!
