Gamescom 2026 will be one of the year's biggest gaming events, and the current lineup shows players have plenty to look forward to before any surprise announcements. Gamescom has always been about confirmed games rather than a steady stream of brand-new announcements, and that might work to its advantage this year. From new AAA projects and much-awaited sequels to independent games and planned expansions, the event brings it all together.
Unlike Summer Game Fest, Gamescom gives developers a chance to go a bit deeper on titles we already know. That means fresh trailers, gameplay demonstrations, release dates, and hands-on experiences can be just as essential as wholly unexpected discoveries. As Gamescom 2026 approaches, that distinction is becoming increasingly clear.

The list already boasts numerous blockbuster titles launching just before the event or in the months that follow.
We expect to see Star Wars Zero Company, A Plague Tale, Blood of Awakened Walker, Gears of War, Fable, and many other big-name titles. Some of these projects are in such a good position that Gamescom could be their last big promotional push before release. One of the most exciting things about this year’s event is the number of recognizable games that are already announced.
Gamescom has put together a strong roster of games that players are already watching intently, rather than depending exclusively on potential surprise announcements. Perhaps one of the more startling instances is Alien: Isolation 2. The game was originally shown at Summer Game Fest, where attendees were told they could play a chunk of it.
Now Alien: Isolation 2 is anticipated to make another appearance at Gamescom, with the game apparently playable on the show floor. It’s especially impressive considering how far away the project might still be from launch. That also raises doubts about whether Alien: Isolation 2 will get another trailer or more info at Opening Night Live.
Even without a huge presentation at the livestream, having a playable game at the event makes this one of the more fascinating projects on the floor. The next DLC for The Witcher 3 could be a larger draw. Calling it DLC for an older game could make it seem less important, but the expansion is intended to be a major addition to one of the most acclaimed RPGs ever created.
It may well be one of the biggest announcements at Gamescom, and it’s not even a completely new game.
The Witcher 3 DLC is hardly the only important project returning after a previous appearance. Another big name that is expected to show up is Final Fantasy 7, thanks to its starring role at Summer Game Fest. The presence of such a high-profile project at many big events highlights how Gamescom may offer a second chance to build momentum for already announced games.

Microsoft is also preparing a major presence. Fable gameplay is expected to be shown during Xbox’s own presentation, while Gears of War is confirmed to have a story trailer at Gamescom. These visits could offer spectators some of the most significant glances yet at Microsoft’s next offerings. The larger roster is equally remarkable.
Microsoft Flight Simulator and Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, Dungeons, Mega Man, Onimusha, Forza, Crazy Taxi, Rayman, Stranger than Heaven, Persona 4 Revival, Pragmata, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Tides of Annihilation. Other projects set to be announced are Metro 2039, Silent Hill Townfall, Exodus, The Expanse, and a Game of Thrones title. Another project that might get some vital information is Cronos: The New Dawn DLC, especially a release date.
Looking at the lineup, the most realistic assumption might be that it won't be a big batch of totally unreleased games. Instead, Gamescom 2026 might be about delivering the info viewers have been waiting for. Some games have release windows, but no definite dates. Exodus and The Expanse are planned for early next year, but it would be nice to get a little more detail on their debut dates.
Cronos: The New Dawn’s planned DLC is another project that could get a release date.
Another game that needs more gameplay is Fable. Any new look at a project this large may influence consumers' perceptions, especially for a long-awaited game. Xbox should show gamers how the reboot is going at Gamescom. Few games on the list are years from release. Most verified projects are coming soon or in the future months. Persona 4 Revival, Fable, Stranger Than Heaven, and other long-term projects are planned for Gamescom, but many more are closer to debut.

Alien: Isolation 2 is a major outlier. Since it may be years away, its presence at Gamescom is remarkable. It's even more surprising because it may be playable. That sets a fair Gamescom 2026 expectation. The event doesn't need to be a big secret to work. The current program features familiar brands, major releases, expansions, and initiatives fans are excited to see again.
Gamescom's size is another factor. With hundreds of thousands of attendees and a big show floor, the event functions differently than digital displays. Developers can still represent new games because they have a large gaming community. Hands-on demos boost upcoming items.
