GDC 2011 - Super Meat Boy for 3DS?

News by David  on  Mar 02, 2011

Team Meat’s crowning achievement, the sadistic, unrelenting platformer that is Super Meat Boy has had a rough experience in the past year. The first one was with Sony surprisingly not being interested in adding the game to their indie-rich downloadable PSN lineup; second, the unfortunate cancellation of the game’s WiiWare version (because of Nintendo’s maximum 40MB on all of its WiiWare titles); and the third being a brief stint with PETA that spawned Super Tofu Boy.

Despite the hardships Team Meat has endured, they’re not giving up on putting Super Meat Boy out onto other platforms outside of Xbox Live and Steam. With the possibility of a hard retail Wii copy still unresolved as of late, Team Meat is looking to release it on Nintendo’s soon-to-be-released handheld, the 3DS.

Isn't that cute little face perfect for the Nintendo handheld?

Team Meat’s Tommy Refenes said that the developer has received a 3DS dev kit and will be making games for the handheld in the future. It’s unknown how SMB will have 3D features incorporated in it (if at all), though Refenes stated they will give it a go if “it felt right." Refenes spoke about it at the Independent Games Summit two days ago.

Stay tuned for more details as GDC 2011 rolls on!
