GTA 6's Latest Details Cover Its Massive Map, Deeper Choices, Wildlife, and More
New details shed more light on Leonida, Jason and Lucia's relationship, police pursuits, wildlife, activities, pre-orders, the Collector's Edition, and what is happening ahead of launch.

GTA 6 continues to reveal new details as Rockstar gets closer to its November 19, 2026 release, and there's now a lot more information to take in. Leonida is set to be Rockstar's biggest map yet, with Aaron Garbut saying it is around twice the size of GTA 5's map. It will also have more detail, greater density, more interactions, and more interiors, so there should be plenty to explore even after you've spent hours driving around.
The six main regions are Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. Vice City has been rebuilt and expanded for the modern setting, while the rest of Leonida includes swamps, beaches, abandoned tourist attractions, industrial areas, and northern countryside.

The GTA 6 map will also feature plenty of activities spread across the region. Rockstar has described ATV trails, mud parks, demolition derbies, mountain biking, motocross, farms, ranches, golf, and bass fishing. Orlando and the Space Coast aren't officially confirmed, but the map clearly goes beyond the city itself, with a much wider variety of environments.
You can switch between Jason and Lucia at almost any time, and the two will often be together during missions. Their story follows a botched score that pulls them into a larger criminal conspiracy, but their relationship can also develop depending on how you play.
You can influence whether they remain friends or become romantically involved.
Simple interactions such as holding hands, opening doors, keeping in touch, and spending time together can build their bond. There are no gameplay bonuses for either relationship path, but their relationship can affect parts of the story.
This also returns to the kind of relationship and friendship dynamics that were more prominent in some previous GTA games. GTA 5 scaled back that side of things, but GTA 6 appears to be bringing it back in a much more meaningful way.
Rockstar has also said that choices, both big and small, can significantly change the direction of the story. That could encourage multiple playthroughs, as the game won't necessarily force you through the same sequence of events every time.
You can approach robberies in different ways, too. You can do them alone or with someone else, and you can choose between quieter and more aggressive approaches. How far you escalate a crime can affect the police response, while some missions can also depend on how much money you have available. That could mean you'll need some startup money before taking on certain heists. You may also need to acquire equipment before you can carry out certain robberies, though exactly how that progression works remains unclear.
Police chases are also getting major changes.
Six-star wanted levels are returning alongside a new heat system, while police can use your appearance and location at a crime scene to identify you. Changing your clothes or hairstyle, ditching your getaway vehicle, or splitting up with your partner can help you escape. If either Jason or Lucia is arrested, you still receive a busted screen. That means switching between the two characters could help during a pursuit, especially if one character is about to be caught.

Vehicle theft is also being expanded.
Some cars require special tools to steal, while expensive vehicles can have security systems and trackers. The WAiNK phone app can reveal these features, as well as the cost of registering a stolen vehicle and its estimated resale value.
That could make vehicle theft more dependent on progression. Some of the best vehicles may be restricted until you've obtained the right tools, contacts, or money. GTA 5 didn't give you much reason to care about many of the less useful vehicles, but having different levels of access in GTA 6 could make vehicle selection more important.
The map will also feature satellite-style imagery, while the RydeMe app offers fast travel through rideshare services. You can interact with other passengers, listen to radio stations with new licensed music, and browse in-game social media while traveling.
Jason and Lucia can view social media posts but won't create their own because they're wanted criminals. Rideshare trips could also give you another chance to hear ambient NPC dialogue, with Rockstar apparently putting a lot of work into making random characters more interesting to listen to.
Weather is another area receiving a major upgrade.
Conditions are more localized and persistent, so it can be sunny in one location while a storm is happening nearby. Rain can leave puddles after it stops, while rainbows can appear under the right conditions.
Wind can affect hair, debris, water, and vegetation, particularly in the Keys. Tropical storms and hurricanes have also been confirmed, although Rockstar has not explained how often they will occur or how much they will affect the story.
Leonida will also contain more than 170 animal species, including over 60 types of birds and more than 30 land mammals. Confirmed wildlife includes alligators, manatees, flamingos, pelicans, sharks, whales, rays, turtles, jellyfish, iguanas, and macaws. Some animals can be tracked and will fall into rare, discoverable, and legendary categories. Rockstar is keeping those animals' identities secret for now.

Animal fur, feathers, and movement have received extensive visual and simulation work.
The system builds on the kind of animal technology previously seen in Rockstar's other games, but it will now be used throughout Leonida. You can also take part in activities including base jumping, billiards, gym workouts, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off-road racing, visiting zoos, air boating, and jet skiing.
NPCs have received a wider range of heights, body types, skin details, hairstyles, tattoos, clothing, and accessories. Rockstar also has a team dedicated to writing ambient NPC dialogue. One technical change lets characters of different heights interact more naturally. Previous games required characters to be roughly the same size so their animations would work correctly. Still, GTA 6 can apparently handle shorter and taller people interacting without those interactions looking awkward.
There are also 12 new screenshots showing different parts of the game, including Jason and Lucia, beaches, bars, wildlife, weapons, vehicles, and other locations around Leonida. Some images show things already seen, but they offer more looks at the world and its characters.
GTA 6 remains scheduled for November 19, 2026, on XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Rockstar has also started sending out GTA 6 PR packages, which appear to include merchandise such as a cap, T-shirt, stickers, and other items. At the same time, GTA 6 appears to be receiving age ratings worldwide, including a PEGI 18 rating across Europe and ratings in the United States and other regions.
The game's vinyl release has also been discussed. Blood Records founder Craig Evans was asked how many copies of the GTA 6 vinyl had sold and said it was a 10,000-unit run. It's unclear whether he was referring to the limited-edition vinyl or the standard versions, although the limited-edition release has sold out.
The GTA 6 Collector's Edition has been selling quickly, too.
It went on sale in Australia through EB Games for 700 Australian dollars and sold out within 10 minutes. The Collector's Edition has also sold out in the UK and Europe, just four days after going on sale.
The exact number of units available hasn't been revealed, and it's unclear whether other retailers will receive more stock. Rockstar has also updated its store with images showing the inside of the Collector's Edition box, including its drawers and how the packaging opens.

The extended look has received another interesting update, with GTA data miner Lucas7Yoshi extracting its music and gameplay audio separately. This lets you hear the raw gameplay audio without the music, along with some of the game's original soundtrack.
The suspected actors behind Jason and Lucia, Dylan Rourke and Manni L. Perez, have also verified their Instagram accounts ahead of GTA 6's release. Neither has confirmed their roles in the game, though both remain associated with the two protagonists.
Behind-the-scenes images have also shown the Vice City rooftop sign being built and planned inside a Miami warehouse. While the images don't reveal a major new feature, they offer another look at how some of the game's physical locations are being constructed.
With fewer than 50 days until GTA 6, the game's pre-orders have also become a major talking point.
A recent report claimed that GTA 6 pre-orders are heavily skewed toward PlayStation 5, which reportedly raised concerns internally at XBOX. Matthew Ball, XBOX's chief strategy officer, pushed back on that claim, saying XBOX is very happy with GTA 6 pre-orders and that they are breaking records on the platform. He also said the company expects to break more records throughout the fall.
Ball later said XBOX's internal analysis shows that its share of GTA 6 pre-orders matches its share of the console market. Both statements can exist at the same time, but the exact size of XBOX's share of the overall console market wasn't provided.
Rockstar has continued to reveal new GTA 6 information on a regular schedule. The extended look arrived on August 27, the controller was revealed on September 3, pre-orders opened on September 10, the album arrived on September 17, and the Collector's Edition was revealed on September 24.

With something new appearing almost every week, the next announcements could continue filling in the remaining gaps before launch. Merchandise appears likely to be part of that rollout, although it may be revealed gradually rather than all at once.
For now, GTA 6 is bringing together a much larger Leonida, more detailed weather, a huge range of wildlife and activities, deeper interactions between Jason and Lucia, more flexible robberies, new ways to escape the police, and a wider vehicle theft system. With the release date approaching, plenty of information is still coming out before you can finally explore it all yourself.
