LEGO to Produce Minecraft Sets
News by Aaron on Feb 17, 2012
Fans of Minecraft and LEGO couldn’t be ignored for long. The Danish toy company announced on its CUUSOO site—a social program where fan-made LEGO projects that garner enough support can enter full-scale production—that it will create Minecraft-themed play sets.
“We're happy to announce that the Minecraft project on LEGO CUUSOO has passed the LEGO review and we are now developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the LEGO system and in Minecraft and we can’t wait to show it to you—but we aren’t ready just yet,” a CUUSOO representative said on the submission page. “These things take time, so we appreciate your patience. More details are to come.”

One example created by user suparMacho.
“Like LEGO, but…” is a phrase often used by fans of the sandbox game, and players have created LEGO sets, including biomes, enemy mobs and blocks and tools.
“We’ve invited a couple of the LEGO fans behind the earlier LEGO Minecraft projects, suparMacho and koalaexpert, to collaborate with us to shape the idea,” a Mojang rep said on the CUUSOO page. “We’re also interested in your ideas, and will select the best LEGO Minecraft models to also join our efforts.”
Mojang also announced that it will donate the royalties it receives from LEGO to charity. LEGO has revealed the first Minecraft set, but it’ll be a while before it's released. Check out some of the user-created pieces on the submission page in the meantime.
