You may have heard of a little someone by the name of Neil Gaiman. If you have, you realize little is an understatement. Known for The Sandman graphic novel series and the books The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Coraline and Stardust, Gaiman recently branched out, last year announcing his collaboration with indie developer The Odd Gentlemen.
The pair have joined in creating an original tale by the author, titled Wayward Manor. This ghost story is a puzzle adventure game set in a Victorian estate during the Roaring Twenties. Peacefully slumbering in his mansion, a ghost is undesirably woken by the Budds, a quirky, flawed family of misfits. To scare these intruders away, said ghost must use his creative side, scaring away the gathering in his own special way.
As the game progresses, players discover more about the tenets, the after-life and the house's mysterious spirit through good old fashioned puzzles and goofball humor. As more and more is revealed, the cranky ghost learns about his past and how he became the entity that he is.
Delayed numerous times, Wayward Manor now has an official release date.
We’ve been working day and night to make sure Wayward Manor is the best game it can be. This ultimately meant making the tough decision to delay the game. After adding more puzzles, an extra level of polish, and maybe even some paranormal surprises; we’re finally ready to announce a release date for Wayward Manor.
The Odd Gentlemen will release their indie title on July 15 for PC and Mac. Ghosts, spirits and things that haunt your dreams seem to be today's trend, with inspiration from authors and their novels seemingly taking the leap to video games. As well loved as Neil Gaiman is in the literary world, it seems that Wayward Manor could be the next must play adventure game.
