For anyone playing original Xbox games over Xbox Live: your days are numbered.

Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of service for online features of games released on the first Xbox. This will go into effect on April 15 and will include games playable on Xbox 360, and those bought digitally as Xbox Originals.

"I want to start by saying this isn’t a decision we made lightly," said Xbox Live General Manager Marc Whitten in an open letter to Xbox Live members. "But after careful consideration, it is clear this will provide the greatest benefit to the Xbox LIVE community."

Whitten said Microsoft is looking to make changes to the service that are incompatible with the older titles. They will be in contact with those affected by this move.

"We will contact the Xbox LIVE members directly impacted by this change and if this includes you, I encourage you to check your LIVE messages and associated e-mail account over the coming weeks for more details and opportunities," said Whitten. "We view you as a partner in this process."
