The most popular elements of Pokemon games is the ability to trade and battle with your Pokemon with other players. Those hoping to access those features in the upcoming Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee will need Nintendo's premium online subscription.

According to Eurogamer who spoke with a spokesperson for The Pokemon Company:
“Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! will have online play functionality. Battling and trading with other players over the internet or locally will be available in these games,”
“An active membership for the Nintendo Switch Online service, which is scheduled to begin in September of this year, will be required to access these features.”
The spokesperson also said,
“However, the feature set will be somewhat simplified in comparison to previous games in that there is no GTS, Wonder Trade, or Battle Spot (Rating Battle, Free Battle, and Online Competition, etc.) for example. Further details will be revealed at a later date.”
This new requirement will no doubt frustrate players who've grown accustomed to having these features for free.
Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee are due to arrive onto Nintendo Switch on November 16th.
