Square Enix to Publish Modern Warfare 2 in Japan
News by David on Aug 29, 2009
Square Enix has taken interest in recent Western games recently. On a certain perspective it's another way for the company to strengthen their ties with the gaming industry in an international sense. Thus, it has been confirmed that Square will be the publisher for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, ready for a Japanese release. A teaser site is already up, featuring a big '2' on the background. If somehow, by any chance, this number doesn't give it away right off the bat, you can just scroll down to see the words 'Activision' and 'Call of Duty' on the bottom.
As surprising as it may sound, this game is not the only Western brand that Square will publish in its home country. Since Square bought out Eidos not too long ago, it's highly likely that games like Tomb Raider will eventually be commonplace in Japan. Even Quantum of Solace made it overseas, and it's also been confirmed Capcom will be publishing Grand Theft Auto there as well.
There are indeed many Western games / franchises that have long stayed exclusive in the North American and European regions. But the people can expect some of them to be picked up eventually by many Japanese gaming companies and make their way on the other side. Only time will tell.
