YouTube's gaming channels have some of the biggest audiences on the platform. So much that YouTube attempted to branch out with YouTube Gaming, in a better attempt to compete with Twitch. But the service did not reach the heights Google was hoping for and that part of YouTube is closing this May 30th.

YouTube Gaming,NoobFeed,

Google detailed the shut down of the section. Confirming that all "gaming" related content will remain on the specific tab and no alterations will be made to users channels or videos. Only the HUB area will be removed from YouTube.

We launched YouTube Gaming as a standalone app for gamers where we tested out new features based on the Gaming community’s feedback. We want to continue to build a stronger home for the gaming community that thrives on YouTube, not just the YouTube Gaming app. More than 200M of you come to the main YouTube app to engage with your favorite games and creators every month.

Launching back in 2015, YouTube Gaming attempted to provide a gaming section dedicated to only video games and content creators. The application never caught on and many simply used the normal YouTube application, many the addition meaningless to most. Currently, Google has Stadia in development that will provide direct access to streaming, purchasing, and playing games so it's likely that Google is attempting to bring a brand new setup for that system. With more information set to release this summer for Stadia.
