You should equip a weapon dealing with physical, fire, and infection damage to finish the first stage quickly. One great choice is the Holy Embrace, which you can obtain by wearing Wolverine clothes. This weapon scales highly with Technique and Spirit and has excellent Strength for the second stage. It's incredibly powerful and fun to use.
