The Mentat class is one of the most valuable classes to unlock early in Dune Awakening, offering excellent passive abilities and strategic advantages for your character progression. This guide will walk you through the process of unlocking the basic Mentat class through the "First Blood" quest line.
The quest is designed to be accessible relatively early in your journey and can be completed safely without requiring advanced equipment or high-level areas.
If you didn't start as a Mentat character, you'll need to complete this basic trainer quest to unlock the class line and gain access to its powerful abilities.

When to Unlock Mentat
The ideal timing for unlocking the Mentat class is as soon as you're coming out of Haga Basin. Once you've completed everything down south in Haga Basin, packed up, and you're ready to move on, this should be the first thing you do.
The quest location is easily accessible, and the requirements are straightforward, making it perfect for early to mid-game progression.
Quest Location: Rift Watch
You want to head to Rift Watch in Hagger Rift. This is an area you can get to relatively early on, and it's quite safe to reach. Rift Watch is located just east of Eastern Familiar Scat, which is where you'll spend most of your mid-game time, so you should be relatively familiar with the area.

The location is accessible and doesn't require any special transportation, though having mobility options will make the journey more convenient.
Finding the Basic Mentat Trainer
The person you need to speak to is Samin Moro, located on the south side of Rift Watch, right at the entrance. It's a Harkonnen base, but you can't really miss the trainer.
Samin always has a flying diamond above their head that glows blue, making identification easy. You can find them either inside the base or just outside the entrance area.
Quest Requirements
Before speaking with Samin Moro, you'll need to gather two specific items. Samin is going to ask for 100 plant fibers and 40 iron ores. You should collect these materials on your way to Rift Watch to save time.
You can gather all of these resources right at the Rift Watch area. You probably already have some plant fiber from your previous activities, but 100 plant fiber and 40 iron ore represent only about one or maybe two resource nodes to harvest with a cutter ray.
This way, as soon as you arrive at the location, you can speak with Samin, turn those materials in right away, and proceed to the second part of the quest.
Part Two: Suk Alusus Mission
The second part of this quest will take you to Suk Alusus, which is like a thieves' den-type area. As soon as you've turned in the required materials to Samin, you'll need to travel to this new location.
If you approach from the north, there's a tunnel that goes straight south. You'll head down there and find a bracelet room - it's the first room you'll encounter if you enter from that direction.
Your objectives at Suk Alusus are straightforward. First, pick up the bracelet that's located in the room. Then, go inside where Samin wants you to poison a specific barrel. You'll interact with the barrel and poison it to complete this objective.

Bonus Loot Opportunity
While you're at Suk Alusus completing the poisoning objective, there's a really good unique chest that's hidden in the room. It's located in the back area, and you'll have to climb up to find and access it.
Inside this chest, there's a really good early-game shotgun that's worth grabbing while you're in the area. This bonus loot can provide a significant upgrade to your equipment during the early stages of the game.
Quest Completion
Once you've completed the poisoning objective at Suk Alusus, you'll return to Samin Moro at Rift Watch to turn in the quest. Upon completion, you will have successfully unlocked the basic Mentat class.
The entire quest line is designed to be completed early in the game and provides immediate access to the Mentat's valuable passive abilities.
The basic Mentat unlock is straightforward and should be one of your priority objectives when you reach the appropriate stage in your progression.
The class offers excellent benefits that will serve you well throughout your continued adventures in Dune Awakening.
