Following years of anticipation and several delays, Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. As Rockstar gears up for its biggest open-world launch yet, there's a lot to get excited about, especially if you've been following the latest updates and gameplay reveals.

The game was originally scheduled for fall 2025, then delayed to May 2026 and pushed back again to November 19. Although rumors of another delay to February 2027 have circulated online, those claims reportedly originated from an anonymous 4chan post. Take-Two's August earnings information continued to point toward the November release date.

GTA 6 Details Before Launch

The standard edition is reportedly priced at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition could cost $89.99.

Physical copies may also include a download code instead of a traditional disc. Fortunately, preloading is expected to begin on November 12, giving you a week to download the game before launch. GTA 6 reportedly installs to around 210GB, so you'll need plenty of storage space.

Your next adventure takes place in Leonida, Rockstar's fictional version of Florida. The state includes six major regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga.

The main attraction is Vice City with beaches, bright hotels, Art Deco architecture, nightlife, and Little Cuba flea markets. Meanwhile, the Leonida Keys are a quieter coastal setting with islands, boats & bars. This is also where Jason lives and where the story is said to begin.

If you like to explore the wilderness, Grassrivers brings the Florida Everglades to life with its mangroves, swamps, airboats, and alligators.

Port Gellhorn has a different vibe with cheap motels, abandoned attractions, and rundown shopping centers. Ambrosia features a major sugar refinery and a motorcycle gang called the Final Chapter, while Mount Kalaga focuses on hunting, fishing, off-road trails, and wilderness exploration.

The map could reportedly be around twice the size of GTA 5's Los Santos and Blaine County combined, although its actual scale isn't the only important factor. What matters is how much Rockstar has packed into the world.

GTA 6 Map Size

Vehicle theft is another area that's getting a lot of attention. Unlike GTA 5, where you could simply break into almost any parked car and drive away, GTA 6 introduces more complicated stealing mechanics. Newer cars might need special tools, like key cloners, to start their engines, while older cars could be easier to break into. Later in the story, you may also get some tools and abilities.

Reports say drivers and passengers apparently fight back when you try to steal their cars. You can also use the Wank smartphone app to scan parked cars and see whether they are locked, have alarms or trackers, and find their estimated value and registration costs.

You can also switch between Jason and Lucia, both separately and during certain missions.

Rockstar has shown this with Jason driving while Lucia sits beside him. If the police arrive, you can switch to Lucia and shoot at officers through the passenger-side window. However, some missions will restrict character switching or require you to control a particular character at specific moments.

The police system is also getting a significant overhaul. The six-star wanted level is expected to return in GTA 6, but escaping the police won't be as easy as just driving off and hiding somewhere. Officers will need some evidence to link you to a crime.

Witnesses, alarms, stolen-vehicle trackers, and security cameras could all help identify you.

The system can also display icons showing what info the police have collected, such as your clothing, vehicle, appearance, and the number of people involved. This means you'll need to be much smarter about how you commit your crimes and get away without leaving any evidence behind.

GTA 6 Cars List

Besides the main story, you can expect activities like basketball, street racing, dirt bike racing, car meets, scuba diving, skydiving, backyard wrestling, dancing, and clubbing. We also expect billiards and basketball to have playable mechanics, not just be background activities.

GTA 6 looks to be a major step up from its predecessor in terms of freedom, with a bigger world and more detailed gameplay systems. There's plenty to do in Vice City: steal some cars, get into trouble with the cops, and Leonida should give you plenty of reasons to spend some time away from the main missions.
