Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma features a rich cast of characters with whom you can build lasting bonds through diverse social interactions. This guide shows you how to get to the social menu, what the best ways are to strengthen bonds, and what other features and activities can help you build relationships and make sure that every contact counts.

How to Get Socializing (Unlock the Social Menu)

Upon starting a new game, only basic chats with your chosen character are available. The Social Menu unlocks automatically as you progress through the main story quests. After constructing your blacksmith in Spring Village, Suzu will introduce you to the socializing mechanics.

Unlocking this menu early is crucial—particularly for characters like Murasame, whose birthday occurs early in spring and requires the Social Menu for gift-giving.

Hanging Out: Basics

The Hanging Out option presents various interaction choices each day, but only one action per day can be performed. A yellow symbol above a character's head indicates that an action remains available. Choose carefully, as this reset applies globally rather than per character.

Refresh Social Actions Once

Social actions reset once per day across all characters. Prioritize the reset for the character whose bond you wish to strengthen most.

Actions Take In-Game Time

Each social action consumes in-game time: some take 10 minutes, others 30 minutes or an hour. Select activities based on each character's preferences to maximize efficiency.

Figure Out Their Preferences (Likes & Dislikes)

Every character has unique likes, dislikes, and loved items. Preferences reveal themselves through dialogue during social interactions and story quests.

Pay attention to character remarks to learn what gifts to give, topics to discuss, and locations to visit. Once an action is identified as liked or disliked, it will be displayed in the Social Menu for easy reference.

Point System

Bond points earned depend on how much a character enjoys or dislikes an action. Neutral actions grant around five points, while loved actions provide ten or more. An action one character loves may be disliked by another. Experiment to discover each character's most rewarding interactions.

What Actions Are the Most Worth It?

Longer or higher-level actions usually yield more points, yet shorter 10-minute activities that a character loves can be more efficient. Tailor your approach to each character's tastes and test different options.

Six Different Ways to Bond (Other Than Hanging Out)

1) Dance of Bonds

Use the Dance of Bonds with the Sacred Plum Branch once daily for a slight point boost.

2) Let's Chat

The Let's Chat option is available once per day and consumes no time, offering a minor boost and additional dialogue opportunities.

3) Battle Parties & Chatter

Adding characters to your battle party raises bond levels with up to three active members. Unique party chatter and popups confirm bond increases. Unlock this feature at bond level one and after completing the Checking on Takumi quest.

4) Personal Requests

Taking care of each character's Personal Requests strengthens ties and gives rewards. If you want to give someone a gift on their birthday, make sure you choose the Birthday choice. Regular gifts do not count.

5) Unlock More Interactions (Skill Tree)

Invest points in the Social Skill Tree to access new activities such as Inviting Someone Out, Grabbing a Bite, and Resting Together. Intimate actions require a romantic relationship to perform.

6) More Fancy Activities

Higher bond levels unlock special outings: characters joining you at a Hot Bath (level three), having Dinner Together (level four) at the Izakaya in Autumn Village, or Cooking Together (level six).

Unlock Swimsuits in the Base Game

Swimsuits exist in the base game and DLC. Unlock them by using the Invite Out to the Ocean action from the Skill Tree. After the first invitation, a character's swimsuit becomes available in the wardrobe.

Bonding Stories (Required to Become Lovers)

Each character has four Bonding Stories, unlocked at bond levels four, five, six, and seven. Requirements may include character-specific conditions such as time, place, main story progression, or item collection. Completing all steps and reaching bond level seven allows a romantic confession and relationship status change.
