Star Fox on the Nintendo Switch 2 is a pretty simple game: shoot enemies and don't get shot. The first few missions are not too difficult. The further you go, the more you are expected to know. These tips will help you complete each mission and face anything that may be thrown at you later in the game.

The Campaign is not finished once you have completed it!

The true objective is to defeat Star Fox and end Andross' war. There are optional objectives for each planet in the game, and completing them will earn you Medals. Oh, and some of those goals provide alternate ways to get from Corneria to Venom — and there are approximately two dozen ways to get there. Open the map viewer, select any planet and press X to view what objectives are still required to be completed and what is needed to open a new route.

Switch Between First- and Third-Person View

If you're not used to locking onto targets in third-person, press the - button to switch to first-person cockpit view. Your aim gets more precise from that view. The downside is that you lose visibility above and below the Arwing, so be aware of that depending on the mission you're getting.

Keep Your Teammates Alive

In all missions, Peppy, Falco and Slippy are attacked by enemies. You can intervene and remove the person on their tail, or you can let them do their own thing. They will not be available for the next mission if they fall. That's more significant than it sounds.

Some alternate routes are only available if some allies are still alive. To unlock the route to Sector Y, Falco must survive Corneria, for instance. Also, in dogfight missions on Fichina and Venom, you will take some of the enemy's focus off of you if you have allies with you. There are less teammates and more enemies coming at you.

Lock Onto the Middle Enemy in a Group

Charging an attack, target the enemy in the middle of a formation. When a player locks on to an enemy, the blast will also affect other enemies in the area, so that one shot can wipe out an entire group. After they are removed, you can proceed to the next target.

Shoot Everything, Not Just Ships

Some missions require a certain number of hits to unlock alternate routes, and the more hits you make, the more health your allies will get at the end of a mission. Obviously, enemy ships are the first priority, but Turrets and objects that can be broken also count towards your total. Don't skip past them. You can also lose valuable items such as Bombs or Shields for your Arwing when destroyed.

All Movement Options

Somersaults and U-Turns are taught early in the game and are valuable to learn, but sometimes it's better to take it slow. It allows you to spin around quicker and maintain visual contact with an enemy that is moving, and it also helps you avoid running into things. Just watch your meter — after using a move, you need to wait for your meter to recharge before using another move.

Take Messages From R.O.B. Right Away

If a message is displayed on the screen, respond promptly. It's always R.O.B. and he's dropping supplies or firing to eliminate a group of enemies for you. The prompt doesn't remain for long and if you miss it, you won't get any assistance from him that run.

Barrel Rolls Don't Block Everything

Barrel Rolls deflect lasers and missiles and get you out of a situation where a turn is not quick enough. But they don't make you untouchable. Damage can still be done by rolling into something, and they won't do anything against heavier hits such as boulders or mechanical arms coming at you.

Star Fox Beginner's Guide Challenges and Expert Mode

Challenges and Expert Mode

Star Fox is played on easy or normal. Once you earn at least one Medal from any planet during the campaign, both extra challenges and the Expert Campaign open up. Expert Mode is similar to the more difficult difficulty of Star Fox 64, with new enemies, new locations, and no continues. If you use up all your lives, you start over again.
