Here's a guide on how to earn medal in Sector X in Star Fox.

Star Fox on the Nintendo Switch 2 requires 150 hits to earn a Medal in Sector X. The difference with this mission is that it branches off into two paths at the end, and each one alters the way you approach hitting that number. One road leads to Warp Gates to Sector Z.

The other will take you to a boss fight that will bring you to Macbeth. Both can earn you the Medal, but they are different and have different risks.

Star Fox Guide Starting in Sector X

The Boss Route (Right Path)

The right side of the fork has more enemies than the left side, and defeating the boss will give you points on top of that. It's the higher-scoring path, but it's also more difficult to maintain the safety of your teammates.

The main thing to know here is that you must take down the boss before it hits Slippy. If Slippy or any other teammate is knocked out at the end of the level, you will not receive the Medal even if you have hit enough. If this occurs, go back to the previous checkpoint or to the start of the level and repeat.

The Warp Gate Route (Left Path)

The left fork is the easier one to take to get to 150. Once past the checkpoint, head left and fire all four Warp Gates to open them, then fly through each to pick up the orange energy. The gates resemble doors and illuminate when shot. Once you've cleared the fourth one, a short cutscene plays and you warp into a new zone. If that cutscene doesn't trigger, you missed one of the gates. From there, go back to the checkpoint, as you will not have enough hits to get to 150 on that route without the warp.

The warp zone will take you to the alternate route to Sector Z. There are lots of ships to shoot down in there, but be careful of the rotating blocks — they'll hurt you if you fly into them. If you die in the warp zone, you go back to the checkpoint and have to open all four Warp Gates again.

Use Bombs at the Start

The first area of Sector X has a lot of enemies dropping on you in large numbers. Lock on and drop Bombs into those groups to accumulate hits quickly. A high count early will relieve the pressure on the rest of the level. If you don't have any Bombs going in, you can let yourself die on purpose — you'll respawn with Bombs and can use them from there. You can also catch a couple to assist Peppy when enemies are chasing him. It is not mandatory, but it prevents him from getting too badly damaged.

Press the Brake at the Warp Gates button.

The Warp Gates require a lot of shots to open and it's easy to fly past one before it opens. Hold the brake while you're shooting to slow down and give yourself more time to both open the gate and fly through it cleanly.
