Unlocking your magic powers requires a trip to the summit of Death Mountain Trail after clearing Dodongo's Cavern. Deep inside this mountain territory sits a hidden cavern holding a Great Fairy Fountain.
Finding and activating this sanctuary gives you access to a dedicated Magic Meter along with powerful elemental magic spells to help you on your quest in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Clearing Dodongo's Cavern First
Before you can access the mountain peak, you must first complete Dodongo's Cavern and obtain the Bomb Bag. The path leading to the summit sanctuary is sealed behind heavy, cracked stone masonry that regular strikes and arrows cannot break.
The Bomb Bag lets you pull and drop active Bombs at will, removing the need to locate wild Bomb Flowers.
Path to the Summit of Death Mountain
Once the cavern is cleared, return to the Death Mountain Trail and begin making your way upward toward the peak in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Watch out for rolling rocks and falling volcanic debris along the steep incline. Keep your Hylian Shield raised over your head whenever the volcano erupts to protect yourself from falling projectiles.
Climb past the red-rock ledges until you reach the uppermost plateau near the entrance to Death Mountain Crater. You will see two pathways opening up ahead. Head toward the left-hand wall to locate a damaged stone rock structure blocking a dark cave entrance.
Opening the Great Fairy Fountain
Equip your Bombs from your item inventory. Stand directly in front of the cracked stone barrier, place a Bomb down, and take a few steps back to stay out of the blast radius.
The detonation completely obliterates the boulders, revealing a cave entrance leading to a Great Fairy Fountain.
Walk through the passage to step into the enchanted shrine. In the center of the fountain chamber, walk up to the altar where a golden Triforce crest is carved onto the stone floor. Stand directly on top of the crest, pull out your Fairy Ocarina, and play Zelda's Lullaby.
Unlocking Magic and Din's Fire
Playing the royal tune summons the Great Fairy from the glowing pool. For a small fee of 25 Rupees, make the required offering at the altar to receive her blessing in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The Great Fairy enchants your spirit, permanently unlocking your green Magic Meter beside your health hearts. She also grants you your first offensive magical spell, Din's Fire.
To cast Din's Fire, assign the spell to an action button from your inventory screen. When triggered, your character punches the ground and unleashes an expanding dome of flame that burns nearby enemies, dispels wooden barriers, and lights multiple torches simultaneously across the room.

FAQ
Q. Which song must you play to summon the Great Fairy?
A. You must stand on the Triforce symbol and play Zelda's Lullaby. Other melodies like Saria's Song will not activate the altar.
Q. Can I visit this Great Fairy Fountain before finishing Dodongo's Cavern?
A. You can reach the upper path, but you cannot breach the stone wall without explosives. You either need the Bomb Bag from inside Dodongo's Cavern or you must carry an ignited Bomb Flower from lower on the trail before it detonates in your hands.
