The Outer Worlds 2 Guide | How to Save Hostages (Puzzle)

When doing the Alexandra Monastery section in The Outer Worlds 2, you’ll be met with a decision whether to save the hostages or leave them behind. 

This choice will affect your reputation as well as your difficulty during the final boss fight.

If you choose to save the hostages, you’ll gain a +3 reputation boost, but this significantly increases the number of enemies that you have to fight during the final boss battle, making it much harder.

Whereas choosing to leave the hostages will tank your reputation by -3, but if you’re enemies will pop up during the final fight, making it significantly easier.

The decision is up to you; you’ll get to choose whether you want to be moral or strategic. The tricky part about rescuing the hostages is that you’ll also have to complete a puzzle within the area.

And upon entering the "BE A HERO” door, you’ll be created with a surface with a missing orb that you need to fill.

To solve the puzzle, you first need to make your way up the stairs. I’m headed to the door on the left, where there will be a bunch of tables.

From the table, make your way up by jumping onto the platform that takes you to the upper level. From which you want to follow the path up until you make your way onto the opening on the left, where you will see the sphere and a pressure plate.

Step on the pressure plate to start rolling the sphere. Upon rolling at your notice that the orb will get stuck several times. Break the barriers by shooting at them.

After which, she will get stuck again, and you’ll need to pull a lever.

Lastly, step on the pressure plates to send the orb rolling down its way.

From the main hall, head back to the orb's destination and then pull on the control panel nearby. This wall activates the release of a key card, collected and then head to the chamber holding the hostages.

Doing so well saves the hostages and improves your reputation, and The Outer Worlds 2's canonical ending.
