Grand Theft Auto 6 has received one of its biggest information dumps recently, with new details covering almost every part of Rockstar’s upcoming open-world game. The latest information covers the size of Leonida, interiors, weather, hurricanes, wildlife, activities, NPC behavior, robberies, customization, and the different environments players can explore.

Rather than simply making GTA 6 larger than GTA 5, Rockstar appears to be building a world where more systems work together, and smaller details get as much attention as the major locations. This approach should make Leonida feel more active and believable as you move through different parts of the map.

GTA 6 Leonida City in Night

Rockstar co-studio head Aaron Garbut reportedly described Leonida as the biggest map the studio has created by a significant margin, with the world being roughly twice the size of GTA 5.

However, size isn't the only important part of the design; the map also aims to be denser, more detailed, and more interactive. Rockstar has reportedly focused heavily on rooftops, alleys, interiors, and the smaller spaces between major locations, giving players more places to explore instead of filling the map with empty stretches of land.

Rockstar also spent years researching Miami and South Florida to make Leonida feel more authentic. Those research trips covered nightlife, beaches, the Everglades, the Florida Keys, rural communities, and other parts of the region, with the goal of creating a world that feels lived in rather than simply looking like Florida from a postcard.

Jason and Lucia’s story will naturally take them through different parts of Leonida, but the campaign will reportedly not show players everything. That leaves room for you to discover locations and activities independently instead of having every part of the map introduced through a mission.

The northern part of Leonida also appears to have a much stronger identity than simply being surrounded by the countryside.

Rockstar reportedly drew inspiration from places such as Panama City, Jacksonville, Ocala, and smaller rural communities. The region features lumber areas, deforestation zones, struggling coastal towns, gated communities, private landing strips, and other locations that create a contrast with Vice City’s wealth and nightlife.

That contrast between rich and poor communities, along with crime and corruption affecting different parts of the state, also fits closely with the kind of social satire that has defined GTA for years. Rockstar can use these differences to create situations that feel exaggerated while still reflecting recognizable aspects of modern society.

Outside the towns, players can reportedly discover ATV trails, mud park parties, destruction derby races, mountain bike trails, farms, ranches, golf courses, beaches, dunes, fishing areas, cypress forests, and swamps. These locations give the countryside its identity rather than making it feel like an area players simply drive through between missions.

Rockstar has not confirmed direct recreations of major Central Florida attractions such as Disney World, Universal, SeaWorld, or the Kennedy Space Center. Instead, the studio has said it is selecting locations and environments based on what best serves the game.

The weather system is another area where GTA 6 seems to be making significant progress. Rockstar has reportedly developed a completely reworked weather system with localized, persistent conditions, meaning the entire map will not necessarily experience the same weather at the same time.

One part of Leonida can be hit by heavy rain while another remains dry, and roads can stay wet while puddles remain visible after the storm has passed. Players can also arrive somewhere after the weather has changed and still see evidence that a storm recently moved through the area.

Hurricanes are also confirmed, bringing large tropical storm systems to Leonida.

These storms reportedly feature massive cloud formations, strong winds, heavy rainfall, thunder, lightning, and water running from rooftops and other surfaces. The wind system is also being simulated in greater detail, with offshore breezes after sunset, thermal updrafts, buildings blocking airflow, and environmental objects reacting differently depending on their surroundings.

Wildlife appears to be receiving similar attention. GTA 6 reportedly features more than 170 animal species, including more than 60 bird species and over 30 land mammals, alongside fish, reptiles, marine life, and invasive species. You can encounter these animals across different environments, making the wilderness feel like an active part of Leonida rather than space between major locations.

The reported animals include manatees, flamingos, pelicans, alligators, feral cats, cane toads, armadillos, macaques, sharks, whales, rays, turtles, and jellyfish. The sheer variety means different parts of Leonida should have their own wildlife populations rather than relying on the same animals throughout the entire map.

Rockstar has also reportedly paid close attention to how animals look and react to their surroundings. Fur can become matted or clumped with dirt and react differently when animals get wet, while individual animals can have different coat patterns and color variations. Birds can feature different feather types, and they can also exhibit effects such as iridescence, translucence, and bioluminescence.

The number of activities available across Leonida is similarly extensive.

Reported activities include base jumping, billiards, gyms, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street racing, off-road racing, zoos, air boating, and jet skiing, while previous footage has already hinted at basketball and golf. This makes the map’s size more meaningful because there are supposed to be plenty of reasons to explore different regions instead of simply passing through them during story missions.

You can expect to see people arguing, talking on the phone, hanging around businesses, socializing, and carrying out other everyday activities. Clothing will also change depending on a character’s region, culture, income level, and circumstances, with Rockstar reportedly creating its largest collection of clothing and accessories yet.

The game’s economy also more closely ties crime and progression together. Certain missions reportedly will not unlock until Jason and Lucia have enough money, meaning players may need to build their finances through robberies, side jobs, smuggling, or other activities before progressing to certain parts of the story.

The six-star wanted level is reportedly returning alongside the previously discussed heat system. Arrests are also expected to return, and players can reportedly be busted even when the other protagonist escapes. This adds another layer to police encounters, as getting caught can play out differently depending on what happens to Jason or Lucia.

Weapon customization is another area receiving more attention.

Previous footage has shown rifles equipped with suppressors, reflex sights, foregrips, camouflage patterns, and other attachments, suggesting that players will have more control over their loadouts. Rockstar does not appear to be turning GTA 6 into a military simulator, but the expanded system should give players more ways to prepare weapons for different situations.

New screenshots also provide a closer look at how these systems work together. One image shows the Vice City skyline, Bayside, and the Sahara Arena, with extensive nighttime lighting, illuminated structures, beams reaching into the sky, and glowing objects around the water.

Other images show Tucker’s citrus farms, with workers in the fields and a crop duster flying overhead, while a large orange-shaped structure appears in the distance. Mount Kaga National Park features hikers, people walking dogs, a pay telescope, waterfalls, and distant characters.

The wildlife screenshots provide another look at the game’s environmental detail, with alligators, deer, birds, boars, ducks, and other animals appearing throughout the Everglades. Another image shows Jason riding an ATV with a scoped hunting rifle while deer are nearby, while a separate screenshot appears to show people hunting an alligator from an airboat with a sea sparrow flying overhead.

These screenshots are particularly compelling because they show several systems operating together rather than focusing on one major feature. Sweat on characters, puddles, wildlife, NPC clothing, birds, weapon attachments, reflections, distant pedestrians, grass, clouds, and other environmental details are all visible within the same world.

New artwork has started appearing in real-world locations, including murals in New York City featuring Jason and Lucia and the game’s Vice City-inspired style. The campaign is also reportedly expanding into merchandise, with influencers and creators receiving Rockstar packages containing hats, shirts, stickers, money clips, bags, Zippo lighters, and other branded items.

That growing marketing presence suggests Rockstar is moving into the final stretch before launch. The company is no longer relying solely on trailers and screenshots, with physical advertising, merchandise, promotional partnerships, and other real-world campaigns beginning to surround the game.

Performance is another major topic, particularly the possibility of GTA 6 running at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro.

Rockstar has not confirmed a 60 FPS mode, so it remains speculation rather than an announced feature. The PS5 Pro does provide additional graphics performance and improved reconstruction technology compared with the base PS5, but GTA 6’s final performance targets will depend on Rockstar’s optimization and the demands of its open-world systems.

The game also has to support current-generation consoles, including XBOX Series S, although that does not mean every console will necessarily use the same resolution, graphical settings, or frame-rate targets. The PS5 Pro’s additional rendering capabilities could give Rockstar more flexibility, particularly when combined with newer reconstruction technology.

For now, the new information makes it clear that GTA 6 is aiming to be much more than a larger version of GTA 5. Leonida combines a massive map with detailed interiors, localized weather, hurricanes, extensive wildlife, varied activities, deeper NPC behavior, expanded customization, and a world designed to remain active outside the main story.
