Intellivision Lives!

I know it’s hard to remember just what an “Intellivision” was.  Some 3 decades ago, Mattel had a stab at releasing their own console; with moderate success. Yes, the guys who make the very successful Barbie dolls also manufactured consoles.

Having numpads for controllers, you could slide an overlay on your controller that would serve as your manual. That way, you could always see what button you’d have to press.

Well, after some delay and a ban on DsiWare, Nintendo has finally decided to bring out cartridges for DS with a set collection of these games. Amongst these Intellivision games will be classics like Astro Smash, Armor Battle, Night Stalker and Shark! Shark!

The numpad will now be substituted by the use of the touch screen, with the same overlays as before.

So if you’re into playing 30 year old games on a new console, you’ll be able to pick these up around September. One can only imagine the huge Mattel fanbase flocking to this inventive addition.
