Microsoft Points Not Going Away
News by Megan Bethke on Oct 10, 2012
As reported earlier this week Microsoft Points are being phased out in Windows 8 in favor of currency. Microsoft confirmed this change to The Verge who reported local currency will only be the primary method of buying Xbox content in Windows 8. A Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge:
"Current Xbox Live customers may also make a purchase using points," stating "Microsoft Points continue to be the currency for purchasing content for the Xbox 360 console."

It looks like Xbox 360 users are still stuck with the MSP system.
Meaning, if you so incline you can still use Microsoft Points to purchase content on Windows 8. Unfortunately, using an Xbox 360 to download content will still require the use of Microsoft Points; disappointing news for the MSP illiterate.
Microsoft had no other announcements regarding the future of the Microsoft Points system. Here's to hoping for its eventual demise.
