With the release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii just last month, fans are expecting another highly anticipated title to break sales records. It looks like their wishes have come true. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold over 937,000 units in Japan alone. This 3D platformer beat out Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which sold almost 820,000 units the first week of its launch last year.
According to a recent report from Famitsu, as well as stat-tracking business, Enterbrain, they have stated that New Super Mario Bros. Wii has successfully sold about 936,734 units last week. The report also says that the game has the current best opening performance for a major Wii title in Japan since the console's official launch back in 2006.
The game also has been well received in North America, earning very positive reviews from various game websites. According to Michael Pachter, analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities estimated more than 1 million units of New Super Mario Bros. Wii has been sold in North America.
