New Xbox Pricing

News by Tim  on  Aug 27, 2009

After much speculation that Microsoft would follow Sony's lead and announce reduced console prices, the company has finally made it official. To compete with Sony's new PS3 Slim, Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 "Pro" console will be phased out, and the Xbox 360 "Elite" console will be getting a 100 dollar price drop, making the 120GB console $299. The Xbox 360 "Arcade" will remain on the market at $199, and remaining stock of the Pro consoles will be sold at $249. The stock is expected to run out shortly after the holiday season.

However, the Elite console again will be following Sony's lead and will no longer include HDMI or a component HD AV cable. A Microsoft rep commented that "many Xbox 360 customers were not using the HD cables included in the Xbox 360 Elite box, so we removed them."

The price reduction starts tomorrow, August 28th.
