Shattered Horizon Gets Bot Support
News by Jesse Dolman on Mar 17, 2011
Futuremark didn't quite stick to the conventions of the genre when it released its PC-exclusive debut game, Shattered Horizon, in 2009. The Finnish company, also known for its computer benchmarks, delivered a DX10-only online shooter with zero gravity combat, making for a stellar, thrilling multiplayer experience that truly was one of a kind.
When the game was released, however, it wasn't particularly rich in terms of content. There were only four maps available and there was no single player component of any kind. Fortunately, Futuremark has since taken a rather Valve-like approach to its own product, constantly adding free new content (four new maps were added) and keeping the game up to date.

The latest testimony of Futuremark's dedication to its first and only game is the addition of bot support. Every game mode can now be played with and/or against bots, with their number and difficulty being adjustable. There is even a new Horde-like mode, called Last Stand, in which you have to defend yourself against waves of bots, aided by either friendly bots or friends.
Perhaps this latest update will attract some more players to the celestial battlefields of Shattered Horizon: While the game was generally received well and has a good reputation among gamers, servers have been pretty empty for quite a while now.
