Frogwares, the studio behind the Sherlock Holmes titles, is working on their next project, which moves into more cosmicly horrifying territory. Set in the flooded city of Oakmont, players will have to discover the source of these floods while dealing with both citizens and nasty monsters. At this year's PC Gaming Show, Community Manager Sergey Oganesyan explained how The Sinking City is an "open world action investigation game inspired by Lovecraft". It's these three elements, he said, that set the game apart from other third person open world titles.

Investigations will be at the core of The Sinking City, Oganesyan saying that there will be no hand-holding via objective entries in the diary or map markers. Players will have to figure out how to approach things by examining their environments for clues and talking to other citizens. The protagonist's sanity will take a hit when dealing with the supernatural or taking questionable choices. While action won't be the primary focus, firearms, skills and traps can be employed to get rid of monsters, although they won't be abundant. As per this Facebook post, we can expect The Sinking City on March 21st, 2019.
