Titanfall on Xbox 360, the little mech engine that could.

Japan’s sales figures for this week have landed and it had a blood moon event of its own, as an Xbox 360 game ranked in the top 20. Just like the oh so topical reference we used, it’s not something that happens every day, over there.

According to Gematsu, honors go to Titanfall, as expected, since the multiplayer shooter only recently filled the ranks on Microsoft’s older console. Titanfall managed to arrive in the top 20 at a number 9 position with 10,478 in sales. For reference, Dark Souls II on PS3 closed the top with 5,286. Reaching a podium spot would require over 30,000 in sales to topple the 3DS title Yokai Watch. Snagging the gold would require more than 140,000 to outgrow 3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku Hen from Namco Bandai, which stole both top spots for its combined PS3 and PS Vita release.

Japan regularly favors Sony and Nintendo, with most games originating from their consoles. Whether Titanfall will be able to keep a place among the elite is rather uncertain, given that hardware sales are still highest for 3DS and PS Vita, but it was nice to see, once, just like the blood moon.

We like Titanfall. You can watch us play it here.
