This guide will help you understand key mechanics, manage combat situations effectively, and make important choices during your runs in Abyssus.

Controlling the Rooms

Each room in Abyssus is small and can quickly become chaotic. You should constantly move while fighting to avoid being surrounded. Once you understand a room’s structure, it helps to move backwards while firing at enemies in Abyssus.

Be cautious of bumping into other enemies while doing this. Switching between high and low ground is also essential—high areas give better sightlines but attract more enemies, while lower ground offers space to manoeuvre but limits your view. Keep alternating between these positions to stay in control of the area.

Building a Balanced Loadout

During your runs, you’ll be able to select various Aspects to shape your build. On your third and sixth selections, you’ll be given the option to choose Minor or Major Blessings, which can significantly boost your abilities.

Early in your runs, it’s better to keep your build flexible rather than focusing on a single path. Choose upgrades that strengthen your Primary Fire, Secondary Fire, and Ability before enhancing them further in Abyssus.

Health and Healing Items

You might find a Healing Item on the ground after beating a boss or going into a safe place. Clean the area before you use your own Healing Tools. You can get these things from bosses and Chests, which will save your resources for later, more brutal fights.

Going on an adventure before you heal could mean the difference between making it through another fight and having to start over in Abyssus.

Gold and Hidden Chests

Before leaving a room, always look for Gold Pots or Vases. These can be broken to collect Gold, which is essential for purchasing upgrades. You don’t have to collect every piece, but don’t ignore them entirely either.

Check your mini-map to see if any Chests haven't been opened yet before you move on. Even if they are locked, many of them contain valuable items, such as charms or extra Gold. Late in the run, you might move more slowly if you miss these.

Choosing the Right Aspects

Not all Aspects are equally practical. Some suits have specific playstyles that better suit them than others. Tentacle-based and Elemental Aspects, such as Fire and Ice, often provide strong offensive options in Abyssus.

If you prefer fast, aggressive combat, focus on damage-dealing Aspects instead of defensive ones. The Shield Aspect, for example, can be helpful but takes time to charge. Experiment with different combinations to find what feels natural, prioritising offensive Aspects early usually provides more reliable results.

Prioritising Boss Targets

When fighting in combat rooms, defeating the boss usually eliminates the remaining enemies automatically. Because of this, focus on the boss first instead of smaller enemies unless you need to charge an ability.

Each boss has a weak point—often near the centre of its body—that takes extra damage. Target these weak spots and avoid wasting ammunition on smaller threats while the boss is still active in Abyssus.

Avoiding Fall Damage

Fall Damage exists in Abyssus, and while it’s minor (about 10 HP), it can still lead to unnecessary deaths. If you’re in a room with multiple levels, landing on solid platforms won’t hurt you, but falling off the map will. When in doubt, avoid uncertain ledges or drops to stay safe. Losing a run due to a fall is easily preventable with a bit of caution.

Completing Room Objectives

Some combat rooms have special conditions, such as charging Pillars, destroying Constructs, or defeating Spawning Creatures. These objectives must be completed before the enemies cease to appear in Abyssus.

Focus on finishing these jobs first, because fighting enemies that keep coming back wastes time and resources. Once the goal is complete, kill any enemies that are still around and move on.
