Keys are important items you will use to open locked doors and chests across Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake. Each key type is tied to a specific colour of lock found throughout Alefgard. As you progress through the story, you will obtain three different keys—each granting access to new areas and treasures.

Thief’s Key

You will obtain the Thief’s Key as part of your story progression. Continue playing until you reach Craggy Cave, where you will encounter Robbin’ Ood.

After defeating him, proceed deeper into the cave and face the Sorcerer. Once you defeat the Sorcerer, you will receive the Thief’s Key. This key allows you to open red-colored locked doors and chests scattered around the world in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake.

Magic Key

To get the Magic Key, you must first cure both the Dwarven Craftsman and the Captain of their sicknesses. After you have helped them, travel to Rimuldar and go to the house located at the top right corner of the town. Inside, you will find the Warlock of Doorlocks. Speak with him to obtain the Magic Key, which can unlock blue-colored doors and chests throughout your journey.

Ultimate Key

You will gain the Ultimate Key once you complete the events in both Weeping Isle and Faerie Village. After these events are finished, Spiketail will appear in Kol. Defeat Spiketail in battle to receive the Ultimate Key. This key grants you the ability to open green-coloured doors and chests throughout Alefgard.

Key and Lock Colours

Each key corresponds to a specific colour of lock. The Thief’s Key opens red locks, the Magic Key opens blue locks, and the Ultimate Key opens green locks. By collecting all three keys, you will be able to unlock every door and chest you encounter throughout Alefgard in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake.
