To get the Legendary Boons in Hades II, you have to prove your dedication to the gods by collecting three specific Boons from their arsenal. You'll unlock the Legendary Boons ranked from S to D.

Poseidon - King Tide

King Tide boost your Splash damage to Guardians by 200% and expands the area of effect radius in Hades II.

But this buff will be applicable only on Guardian enemy types, i.e., not on Wardens or other enemy types.

The effectiveness of the Boon is strictly based on your Splash damage, which is determined based on your build and Boon investments.

First Requirement: Core Poseidon Boons

You'll need to lock one of Poseidon's primary offence Boons before King Tide. You can use Poseidon's Attack, Special, or Cast core Boons.

Because you're pursuing this legend, you'll likely aim for either the Attack or Special version based on your weapon, because these have more reliable Splash application in Hades II.

Second Requirement: Supporting Poseidon Boons

The second prerequisite involves acquiring one of several Poseidon Boons with varying utility levels. Sprint offers decent mobility benefits and isn't as problematic as it might initially seem in Hades II.

Gain ranges from mediocre to exceptional depending on your weapon and build synergy. Alternatively, Geyser Spout can either significantly enhance or completely undermine your Omega Cast build, though obtaining it does make the Cast option more viable for this Legendary pursuit in Hades II.

Third Requirement: Utility Poseidon Boons

Your final prerequisite comes from four possible utility Boons. Hydraulic Might can be either irrelevant or crucial, depending on your build; however, it may lose effectiveness in multi-encounter areas, such as Fields of Mourning or Rift of Thessaly in Hades II.

Splash Fount provides consistent value, offering helpful damage at minimum and potential enemy elimination at its best.

The Slippery Slope becomes genuinely valuable when pursued in the context of this legend. Flood Control offers situational benefits but comes with significant cost considerations and potential damage increases in high-stress situations in Hades II.

Core Issues with Splash Builds

The fundamental problem with King Tide lies in the Splash mechanics themselves. Unless you're building toward Killer Current, Splash effects generally underperform compared to other damage options.

While Splash surpasses having no Boon at all and occasionally outperforms Hestia's offerings, you'll typically prefer almost any alternative damage source.

Guardian-Specific Restriction

The limitation to Guardian enemies is a significant setback. All but the most flimsy Wardens are robust enough that such damage boosts are necessary, but King Tide cannot strike them.

This limitation severely reduces the utility of the Boon and renders it impossible to sanction the investment necessary to acquire it in Hades II.

Damage Output

Despite the impressive 200% damage increase, this multiplier only applies to your Splash damage component. Unless you've invested heavily in Pom upgrades and found the Boon at high rarity, the actual damage increase against Guardians remains modest.

At best, King Tide elevates Splash damage to match better damage Boons against bosses, which isn't particularly impressive given the investment required.

Optimal Use Cases

The most favourable scenario for King Tide occurs within Killer Current builds. In these setups, the Legendary can enhance your Splash Slip combination's effectiveness against bosses before Zeus' Blitz delivers the primary damage output.

This represents the Boon's peak performance potential, though such opportunities arise infrequently in Hades II.

When evaluating King Tide, consider whether your Splash effects are positioned on primary or secondary damage sources. If they're using lesser-used attacks, you won't be able to utilise the Boon effectively. Conversely, if they're on your main damage dealers, you're likely performing worse than you would with alternative Boon choices.
