There are some basic resources you need to have and some essential things you need to know to survive in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.
Gathering Wood
To collect wood, you have to get a wood-cutting axe first. Early in the game, when passing through the Horns of the South and the fortress, look for a merchant named Orlaith standing outside a gate. The first time you speak to her, she will converse with you.
However, once you finally have the option to purchase from her, you need to buy the wood-cutting axes. This is what you'll be using to gather wood.
Once you have bought the wood-cutting axe in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you can start from the fortress. From Orlaith, use the first set of stairs and head up, but don't climb the second set of stairs; instead, go down the middle path under the archway.
Head left and pass through the practice dummy. There is a stump covered with wood. Now, just interact with it to chop wood. These woods respawn, so gather as much as you need.
Wood is essential in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Inn. It is used to build or repair structures during many quests.
Finding a Storage
Early on in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, a storage chest is located when you reach the Horns of the South inside the fortress. It's outside in the open, so it's easily missable. Take the stairs up in front of you and get up from the entrance gate of the fortress. Head under the nearby archway and proceed toward the blue awning door. To its side, right here, is your storage chest.
This storage system in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is helpful because your storage chest is linked to all your crafting tables. If you go to a crafting table and store your resources in the chest, they'll be available right there while you craft.
This also holds for a cooking pot or any other crafting table. You do not need to always keep all your crafting supplies with you. Keep everything stored to save a lot of inventory space.
Catching Fish
You will first need a fishing rod to catch fish in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. You will notice some ruins nearby when you get up from the shipwreck.
There is a free fishing rod in the ruins. The other way to get a fishing rod is to purchase one when you arrive at a settlement. If you take the free fishing rod in the ruins, be careful of the drowners nearby.
Once you get the fishing rod in, regardless of how you got it in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you must equip it from your inventory. Then you need to look for some water to catch fish. If you're in a place where you can fish, you will have an E or the corresponding icon, depending on your control configuration.
Press E or the appropriate button to cast the line. Then, all you need to do is wait. It might take a while, but fish will eventually bite your line.
The instant a fish bites the line, you'll notice an indicator on the left side of your screen. What you must do is maintain the hook within that moving bar. Press the E or appropriate key—don't spam it too many times—you need to hold the button so the hook rises and then release so the hook falls.
You can see a fish with circles above its head to the right of that bar. Those circles indicate how exhausted the fish is. When those circles have disappeared, you've caught the fish.
Fish is an essential part of the game, and it is used to craft many recipes for healing your character or getting buffs in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.
Setting up Camp
If you are playing Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon on PC, you must click the Q key on your keyboard. This will pop up a menu on your screen. Move the mouse cursor over to the campfire icon on the left side of your screen and click select on it.
Don't hover your mouse over to the left and release it—you must click on it. After clicking it, you will get a notice that a bonfire pops up on the floor. Move your mouse to select a suitable position to place the bonfire.
Use the same procedure if you are using a controller with the buttons you have assigned.
Setting up a camp is also an essential part of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, as it lets you cook food, level up your character, or simply pass the time if you want to fast-forward or avoid enemies at night.
Identifying Items
Using the campfire in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you can also identify items to determine whether you have looted a valuable item.
To identify items, you're going to need ethereal cobwebs. These drop from enemies, particularly at night. Wyrd spawns are an excellent source—they show up at night, and you'll notice they drop many cobwebs when you fight one.
Once you have a bonfire, you can use 10 cobwebs to fuel it. This will unlock the identity option. After clicking on it, a new menu will appear.
At the identity menu, you can see any unidentified items you have. They're tiered, and each tier costs differently in ethereal cobwebs. A good unidentified item will cost 15 cobwebs. You can look at how many cobwebs you have up top-right in that menu.
You will notice that identifying an item sometimes provides you with more than one item. This is beneficial because, for instance, you can get more than one health potion from a single unidentified item.
Strong Health Potions
You must first know the recipe to brew Strong Health Potions in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. You can find the recipe to make the health potion on the beach south of the castle in the Horns of the South.
This is precisely the location that a Keeper tells you about after completing a quest, where he speaks of seeing some odd lights and requests you to check it out. Go there, and you will get a hermit there.
If you look around the area near the hermit, you will find a book named Materia Medica Volume 3: Plants for Health and Magic on the ground. After you have looted the book, you can start brewing health potions.
To brew the healthy potions, you need one Fine Wine, five Sages, and two Roses in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.
You should know these resources, items, and essentials for survival in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.
