Episode 4: In Sheep's Clothing contains 12 Book of Fables entries. Most unlock automatically as you progress through the story, but three require special attention: Donkeyskin Coat, Briar Rose, and Johann. Your investigation order determines which optional entries you can obtain, so visit the Lucky Pawn or the Butcher Shop carefully.

Chapter 1 – Once Upon a Time
Chapter 1 takes place after Bigby's brutal confrontation with Bloody Mary. You begin the episode recovering from your injuries at the Business Office, where Dr. Swineheart treats you.
This chapter has three Book of Fables entries to unlock. All three are obtained through normal story progression.
1. Silver Bullets – Wolf's Weakness
This entry unlocks automatically while Dr. Swineheart treats Bigby.
During the opening scene, Swineheart explains the damage the silver bullets Bloody Mary used against Bigby caused. Silver is particularly dangerous to Bigby because of his nature as the Big Bad Wolf.
The entry provides additional information about how silver affects magical wolves, weakening their bodies and interfering with their natural healing abilities.
You do not need to interact with any objects or make a particular dialogue choice. Allow Swineheart to complete the treatment.
2. Acting Deputy – Snow White
This entry unlocks during the conversation about Snow White's responsibilities at the Business Office.
With Ichabod Crane no longer in charge, Snow has taken over many of his duties and is effectively running Fabletown's administration.
Continue the conversation with Snow and the other characters until the Book of Fables notification appears.
The entry explains Snow's growing responsibilities and the difficulty of managing Fabletown while navigating its increasingly complicated political situation.
3. Life on the Farm
Life on the Farm unlocks during the discussion about Colin and the possibility of sending him back to the Farm.
When Snow discusses the rules surrounding Fables who cannot afford glamours, pay attention to the conversation about Colin's living arrangements.
The entry provides additional information about the Farm and why many Fables consider it a prison rather than a safe place to live.
Although the Farm appears peaceful, its residents are not allowed to leave whenever they want.
Important: If you are missing this entry, make sure you discussed sending Colin to the Farm during the earlier episode. This entry is connected to that previous conversation rather than an optional object in Episode 4.
Chapter 2 – There Was a Wolf
Chapter 2 introduces Beauty and Beast's financial problems and their connection to the Crooked Man.
You will visit their apartment and discover that the couple has been struggling with debt. After investigating their situation, Bigby must decide which location to investigate first.
You can choose between:
- The Lucky Pawn Shop
- The Cut Above Butcher Shop
This decision matters if you want to collect every Book of Fables entry.
Recommended approach: Choose the Lucky Pawn Shop first if you want to obtain Donkeyskin Coat and Briar Rose. You will need to replay the relevant section to get Johann, which is tied to the alternative Butcher Shop route.
Chapter 3 – Who Ruled the Land
Chapter 3 takes you to the Lucky Pawn Shop if you selected it as your first investigation location. This location contains two optional Book of Fables entries, so explore before advancing the confrontation.
4. Donkeyskin Coat – Hide in Plain Sight
This entry unlocks automatically when you visit the Lucky Pawn Shop first.
When Bigby arrives, he discovers Mr. Toad trying to sell Faith's donkeyskin coat to Jack in exchange for money to purchase a glamour.
Recognize the coat and continue the conversation. The Book of Fables entry unlocks when Bigby identifies it as Faith's.
The Donkeyskin Coat is a magical garment based on the fairy tale of Donkeyskin. It allows its wearer to conceal their true appearance by making themselves look unattractive.
You do not need to purchase the coat or make a special dialogue choice. Recognize it during the conversation.
5. Briar Rose – The Sleeping Beauty
Missable – Optional interaction
After Toad leaves the Lucky Pawn Shop, Jack will begin closing the establishment.
Before leaving, tell Jack that you want to look around.
Once you regain control of Bigby, examine the display cases around the shop. Look for a pincushion containing needles on the right side of the room.
Interact with the pincushion to unlock Briar Rose's entry.
Briar Rose is the Fabletown version of Sleeping Beauty. Unlike the traditional story, her ability to fall asleep when pricked by a needle can also affect anyone nearby.
Important: Visit the Lucky Pawn Shop first and ask Jack to let you look around. If you advance the investigation without examining the pincushion, you will miss this entry during that playthrough.
6. The Jersey Devil – Garden State Goon
The Jersey Devil entry unlocks during the confrontation at the Lucky Pawn Shop.
After investigating the shop, Bigby encounters the Woodsman and the Jersey Devil. A fight breaks out, and you must complete the quick-time events to progress.
The entry unlocks automatically during the confrontation.
The Jersey Devil is a creature associated with New Jersey folklore. Its appearance varies across accounts, but it is commonly described as having leathery wings and unusual physical features.
You don't need to defeat the Jersey Devil with a particular attack. Complete the confrontation to obtain the entry.
7. Woodsman's Axe – Ensorcelled by Druids
This entry also unlocks during the Lucky Pawn Shop confrontation.
As the fight progresses, the Woodsman eventually retrieves his axe. Once he gets his weapon back, the Book of Fables entry unlocks automatically.
The Woodsman's Axe is no ordinary weapon. Druids enchanted it and marked it with magical runes, making it powerful enough to become part of the Woodsman's legend.
You do not need to interact with the axe separately. Continue through the fight until the Woodsman recovers it.
Chapter 4 – He Was Much Feared
Chapter 4 takes you to the Cut Above, Johann's butcher shop. The location is connected to the Crooked Man's criminal operation and contains another important Book of Fables entry.
8. Johann – The Butcher
Johann's entry unlocks when you visit the Cut Above as your first investigation location.
After entering the butcher shop, Bigby will speak with Johann and investigate the establishment.
Continue through the conversation and examine the suspicious activity inside the shop. The Book of Fables notification will appear as the investigation progresses.
Johann is an established butcher in Fabletown who has become involved with the Crooked Man's organization. He uses his business as a front for illegal activities, and the quality of his products has declined as his criminal connections have grown.
Important: Johann's entry is available only if you choose the Butcher Shop first, not the Lucky Pawn. If you visited the Lucky Pawn first, replay the relevant chapter and choose the Cut Above to obtain Johann's entry.
Chapter 5 – But Soon He Mended His Evil Ways
Chapter 5 returns Bigby to the Business Office, where Snow White, Bluebeard, and Mr. Toad discuss the situation surrounding Fabletown's residents.
Collect one Book of Fables entry during this chapter.
9. Bluebeard's Money
This entry unlocks during the conversation involving Bluebeard, Snow White, and Mr. Toad.
As the discussion progresses, the characters talk about Fabletown's finances and the problems caused by residents who cannot afford glamours.
The discussion brings up Bluebeard's financial contributions, revealing more about his relationship with the administration.
The entry explains why Bluebeard provides money to Fabletown and how he views the community as protection against the outside world.
You do not need to search for a document or interact with an optional object. Continue through the conversation until the entry notification appears.
Chapter 6 – And All Were Happy
The final chapter takes Bigby to the Crooked Man's hideout, where he finally faces the person responsible for much of the trouble in Fabletown.
This chapter has three Book of Fables entries to unlock. You obtain all three through story progression.
10. The Crooked Lair – Headquarters
This entry unlocks when Bigby enters the Crooked Man's hideout.
The hideout is located inside an abandoned church and serves as one of the main headquarters for the Crooked Man's criminal organization.
As you enter the building and follow Tiny Tim, the Book of Fables entry unlocks automatically.
The entry explains how the Crooked Man runs his criminal network and uses hidden locations throughout the city to do business.
11. The Crooked Man – Crime Lord
The Crooked Man's entry unlocks when Bigby finally meets him inside his hideout.
Continue through the conversation and allow the introduction to finish. You do not need to make a particular dialogue choice.
The Crooked Man is one of Fabletown's most powerful figures. He has built a criminal organization by taking advantage of Fables who need money, protection, or magical assistance.
His entry provides additional background about his origins, his rise to power, and the methods he uses to control other characters.
12. Tiny Tim – Sentry
Tiny Tim's entry unlocks during your encounter with him at the Crooked Man's hideout.
Tim is the small, disabled Fable who works as the Crooked Man's assistant and helps guide Bigby through the building.
The entry explains his background and his belief that his condition cannot be completely healed through ordinary medical treatment or magic.
You do not need to interact with a separate object or make a particular decision. Progress through the conversation with Tim.

Final Thoughts
Episode 4: In Sheep's Clothing contains 12 Book of Fables entries spread across six chapters. Most unlock automatically, but Donkeyskin Coat, Briar Rose, and Johann require you to pay attention to your investigation route.
The Lucky Pawn Shop is particularly important because it contains two optional entries. If you are trying to complete the collection, examine Briar Rose's pincushion before leaving, and make sure you recognize Faith's donkeyskin coat when Toad tries to sell it.
You will need to replay the alternative investigation route to obtain Johann if you initially chose the Lucky Pawn.
Once you collect all 12 entries, you will unlock the Master Librarian achievement.
