Black Friday is here, and there are big reductions on Steam Deck models, more storage options, and a lot of titles on sale. It's a time of year full of holiday cheer, excellent prices, and new chances for people who love mobile gaming.
Now is a great time to get into the Steam Deck ecosystem or add to your current setup with additional accessories and games, since there are big savings on both hardware and software.

Steam Deck LCD Discount Returns
The Steam Deck LCD is back on sale, and it's the greatest way to get into Steam's handheld ecosystem. The OLED variant is not on sale; only the base LCD model is. Anyone waiting to see if the OLED model would receive a Christmas discount should view this as a sign that it won't. If the OLED is the desired model, buying it at full price now feels like the safest choice rather than waiting for an unlikely price drop.
The Steam Deck LCD at $319.20 is still a great deal for anyone who wants to try SteamOS for the least cost. The 256GB version still requires more capacity, and Black Friday is an excellent time to buy SSDs or microSD cards at a discount. You can get a 1TB microSD card for less than $100, while a 2TB card costs between $150 and $170.
Using a larger microSD card offers added benefits because once future devices like the Steam Machine and Steam Frame arrive, moving that card between devices will instantly populate the entire library without redownloading games.
Upgrading the SSD is also simple. It involves removing the back plate, unplugging the battery, draining remaining power, swapping the SSD with a single screw, and then installing SteamOS through a USB recovery file. The entire process usually takes between 30 minutes and an hour.
Storage Considerations and Real-World Use
A setup with 1TB internal storage and a 2TB microSD card may seem future-proof, but games continue to grow in size. Constant downloading, deleting, and juggling storage quickly becomes part of handheld gaming regardless of how much space is available.
It's something any buyer should be prepared for, even with large capacity options.

Steam Deck 2 Concerns and Expectations
Many users express concerns about the potential release of a Steam Deck 2. Valve has repeatedly clarified that it will only launch once there is a true generational leap. The performance increase must be 100% or more, not 30% or 50%, and battery life cannot be worse than the Steam Deck OLED. That level of technology doesn't exist yet.
Estimates point toward 2028, when other major handhelds from Xbox and PlayStation are also expected. All companies use semi-custom AMD chips, so once AMD's next-generation handheld-ready silicon arrives, Valve will likely follow slightly later.
Lenovo Legion Go S Discount
For users who want more power without giving up SteamOS, Lenovo offers the Legion Go S with the Z1 Extreme processor for $650 at Best Buy. It delivers much higher performance than the current Steam Deck models. It handles demanding titles like Forza Horizon 5, Hogwarts Legacy, and Arc Raiders at 800p with 60fps on low or medium settings. However, the sale ends December 1, making it a limited-time opportunity.
Upgrading from the Steam Deck to the Legion Go S comes with warnings. Although its ergonomics are good, they aren't superior to the Steam Deck, and extended use can cause hand fatigue. The display is an LCD, and even a high-quality LCD cannot compete with the OLED model.
When you switch directly from the Steam Deck OLED to the Legion Go S, the blacks look dramatically washed out, and the image quality drops right away. Battery life is also a major problem. The device only lasts around two hours, even at 17W. It works best when plugged in; however, the Steam Deck is more pleasant to use when not plugged in.
Despite the faster processor, the Legion Go S is considered overpriced at its original MSRP, and $650 feels like the price it should have launched with. Still, anyone who prioritizes performance, intends to use an eGPU, or prefers playing docked with a keyboard and mouse may find it worthwhile at the discounted price.

Game Deals Worth Grabbing
A wide selection of games is also discounted. It looks like many studios are holding off on big discounts until the Christmas sale. However, a few games stand out.
Hogwarts Legacy - $9
Hogwarts Legacy is a great deal for $9. Even though the Steam Deck sometimes has trouble moving around inside Hogwarts Castle, changing the settings makes it more stable. Setting graphics to low, keeping FSR 3 on balanced, and enabling tearing delivers a smoother 30fps experience. The game excels in capturing the feel of the books and movies, creating an immersive seasonal world that fans appreciate.
Forza Horizon 5 – $20.99
Forza Horizon 5 reaches its lowest price ever at $20.99. It performs excellently on the Steam Deck with the high preset and frame rate locked to 45 fps. Setting the GPU to 1100MHz eliminates stuttering. The base game contains an enormous number of cars, and skipping the weaker DLC expansions doesn't detract from the experience.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection – $9.99
For $9.99, this collection includes Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo: ODST, and Halo: Reach. It is one of the strongest bundles available, providing locked 60fps performance on both Steam Deck models, with older titles reaching 90fps. Multiplayer and firefight modes work well, making it a must-own part of any Steam library.
Hitman: World of Assassination – $27.99
This package contains Hitman 1, 2, and 3, along with constant content updates and infinite replayability. The game runs extremely well on the Steam Deck. On the LCD model, users can keep graphics settings the same and set the VSync interval to two. On the OLED model, using a specific launch command yields a consistent 45 fps with VSync at 90 fps. It remains one of the strongest handheld experiences available.
Dying Light – $4.99
Dying Light is a great deal at $4.99. It comes with the core game, the huge Following expansion, and a lot of cosmetic and weapon packs. It has 70 to 100 hours of information, works well with others, and runs smoothly. Locking to 45fps ensures consistency, though dropping to medium settings enables a locked 60fps with around 2–2.5 hours of battery life. It's one of the best zombie games available and runs impressively well on the Steam Deck.
Looking Ahead to More Sales
Many titles remain unsold, likely in preparation for a major Christmas sale. A more complete list of compatible and discounted games will become available then.
The season continues to offer strong opportunities to add to game libraries and expand handheld setups. Recent sponsor approvals have contributed to a busy schedule.
