It's been a while since we saw a BioShock game. The last installment, BioShock Infinite, was developed by the now-closed Irrational Games back in 2013. It was re-released on current generation consoles years later along with BioShock and BioShock 2. Now, Take-Two Interactive has announced a new BioShock game but said it won't be out for years.

In an official press release president of 2K David Ismailer stated:

“BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation*. We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.”

In a recent article by Kotaku, Jason Schrier explained how the project was in development since 2015 under the codename Parkside. The game was in development by Austin, Texas studio Certain Affinity. 2K pulled the project and rebooted the project with an in-house developer. Schrier noted that the decision behind this was never provided but my assumption is that the studio wanted to keep the cost down or ensure smooth development. As this BioShock is rumored to be a live service game.

Let's hope this BioShock will live up to the expectations this beloved franchise has established. With the original game remaining one of the best science-fiction titles in gaming.
