Games for Change is going to be 20 years old this year, and after twenty years of trying to highlight the games and technology that can lead to real-world improvements, the respected non-profit is getting a seat at the United Nations for a short while. The annual Games for Change Festival will be held this year at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
This year, the festival is doing a few new things during its run from 17-21 July. There will be a Games and Sustainable Development Goals Summit, and this is all about bringing together some of the biggest names in gaming and other areas to look at how games could be used to improve the overall public good. The summit will look at how games can support some of the goals that the United Nations is supporting, such as improvements in education, equality, and the environment.
Additionally, there will be a Games for Changes Next Gen Fest. This is a games festival that is focused on teenagers so that they can connect with people in the industry and learn from the many experts who will be there for the festival. This is an attempt to grow the games industry by helping those who are still young so they can get into it with the best possible resources.
It’s great to see that Games for Change has gotten some recognition from the United Nations, and this should hopefully help to expand the reach of gaming beyond its current bounds. Video games can be a source of all sorts of good, such as the applicability it has for mental health treatments and education.
