After years of prolific publishing activities, Headup is adding game development to its list. The company's first in-house project will see Tinkertown come to PC via Steam later in the year.

While the game will appear in an Early Access version at first, there is already a demo available on the Tinkertown Steam page. Tinkertown is a role-playing game (RPG) in an open world setting, with vibrant pixel art. Seen from a top-down view, the world will be procedurally generated, as adventurers explore several biomes. The game is available as a singleplayer experience, but it will equally be possible to have people join with drop in and out multiplayer.
While there is an exploration and resource gathering aspect to the game, no RPG is complete without some good old dungeon diving. Descending into the depths will have players face off against boss enemies. As such, Tinkertown is set on having a loot drop loop. Venture out, fight big baddies, get some cool gear and then repeat that process. Additionally, the game will allow players to make the world into a home, by building a habitat. Crafting, base building and questing for resources; it's a classic Minecraft vibe.
Aside from the obvious Legend of Zelda influence, there's a smidge of Octopath Traveler in the spruced up visuals of Tinkertown. The game is a continuation from the development of what used to be called Fourest. Headup has received help from the German government to help fund production.
Publisher Headup is previously responsible for the release of indie darlings like Slime-san, The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia and Bridge Constructor Portal. Tinkertown looks like a fine addition to that list. As Gamescom is underway, expect a lot of games, big and small, to be announced shortly.
