Dave the Diver Beginner's Guide | Essential Tips and Tricks

Here’s a beginner’s guide to gameplay tips and tricks in Dave the Diver.

Game Guide by Rubaiyat Shihab on  Dec 21, 2025

Dave The Diver asks you to find a way to match the responsibilities of a restaurant manager and the life of a deep-sea diver. Dave is who you are. You go into the Blue Hole to fish during the day, and at night you run Bancho Sushi.

Getting resources and helping customers are part of the loop, but making mistakes can lead to losing things or running out of air. To really understand how both worlds work, you need to pay close attention to everything.

Prioritize Upgrading Your Equipment

You should use the gold earned from Bancho Sushi to upgrade your diving suit and weapons as soon as possible. These upgrades are crucial because they allow you to dive longer and deeper, defend yourself against dangerous creatures, and discover more valuable treasure and fish. Investing in your gear early is fundamental to your progress.

Choose Your Kept Item Strategically After Death

If you die during a dive, you will lose all but one of the items you collected. You must choose this single saved item carefully. Prioritize keeping either a fish that is part of a best-selling dish at your restaurant or a piece of valuable treasure, based on which will bring the greater profit to Bancho Sushi.

Utilize Dave’s Phone Regularly

Check Dave’s Phone often to maximize your productivity. Use it to contact friends for tips and review the To-Do List and Emails for information on fish and objectives. Later, you will unlock the iDiver app, which is essential for managing your gear upgrades.

Master Pouring Green Tea

Perfecting the pour for Green Tea is a key way to increase your restaurant earnings. The gold you receive per cup depends on how accurately you fill it; only a perfectly poured cup yields maximum profit. Since it takes little time, practicing this skill is highly worthwhile.

Diversify Your Restaurant Menu

You should try new dishes and make your menu as diverse as possible each night. A varied menu featuring a wide array of dishes, especially those using rarer fish, will generate significantly more gold than a limited selection. Build each night’s menu around the broadest variety you can manage.

Stay in the Shallows Early On

In the early game, don't dive too deep. You have few guns and tools at the start, and the creatures get more deadly at greater depths. Before you try to explore the Blue Hole's deeper and darker parts, you should finish some tasks and get better gear.

Monitor Your Oxygen Levels Closely

You have a finite amount of oxygen when diving. If you run out, Dave will die, and you will lose most of the items collected that day. Always watch your oxygen gauge and avoid taking unnecessary risks. It is better to surface early than to lose your progress.

Track and Hunt Expensive Fish

Pay attention to the stats after each restaurant service to see your best-selling dishes. The game will not tell you where to find more of these ingredients or if they will remain top sellers. Therefore, you should keep your own notes on profitable dishes and reliable sources for their key fish.

Enhance Dishes for Increased Profit

Enhance dishes at Bancho Sushi early on. This increases the gold earned and customer satisfaction for that dish without raising its ingredient cost or changing the recipe. Dishes using ingredients like Jellyfish and Parrotfish scale particularly well, making them smart choices for early enhancement.

Learn to Perform Perfect Catches

To obtain three-star fish, which provide more meat and a chance for extra ingredients or upgrades, you must catch them without harming them. Use the Net for small fish or the Tranquilizer Gun for larger creatures, including sharks. An Underwater Drone is required to collect the largest sedated fish.

Manage Your Restaurant Staff Efficiently

Begin managing your Bancho Sushi staff early. Each staff member has different strengths and weaknesses. Assembling a strong team can allow Dave to be less active during service, though you may still need to perform tasks like pouring Green Tea. A well-built team tailored to your menu is key to maximizing gold.

Explore Every Corner for Treasure

While diving, keep an eye out for hidden treasure chests in addition to fish. These chests, identifiable by their yellow lids, contain valuable goods. Some are well hidden, so thorough exploration of the Blue Hole is necessary to find them all, but the rewards are worth the effort.
