Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen has side quests that are completed in steps, with some of them providing you with tools that you can use throughout the expansion. This guide is for the side quests that are worth doing in the first town, and one quest that is required for a Lost Rite dungeon.

Wolf Side Quest

Complete the wolf side quest in the first town, where you meet a little girl. At the end of the quest, you will receive a wolf that you can take with you. The wolf leads you to nearby relics and to chests with loot in them. This is most useful in a new area, where you want to get high level relics for the first time. You use an item to call the wolf to you.

Blacksmith Side Quest

Do the blacksmith side quest in the same town. It unlocks the Blacksmith, who then trades with you and makes gear for you. The Blacksmith becomes more important over time, as you can upgrade him.

Dwayne's Side Quest

Dwayne is the innkeeper, and he trades items for Ducats. Ducats are coins hidden throughout the region, in secret places and in the open. His side quest is a long chain. Start early. The first rewards are small, and the rewards at the end of the chain are large.

Mercy Among Thieves

This quest is part of the base game region of Battahl, and it is required to enter the Mired Conduit dungeon. Go to Checkpoint Rest Town and pass through the gate. Speak to the beggar and to the merchants who talk about the gang, and say you will investigate. Continue along the road until you meet the Coral Snakes. You chase a person through a cave system that leads to the Coral Snakes' Hideout, and the gate remains open for you afterward.
