Dragonsplague reaches your pawns from set sources, and you can lower the chance that it reaches yours. This guide covers where it comes from, how it spreads, and what the expansion changes in Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen.

The Source
The plague starts in the Unmoored World, the true endgame of the base game. When a pawn rests there, it can catch Dragonsplague. That pawn then carries it into other players' worlds when someone summons it from the Rift. A pawn you pick from the Rift can already be infected.
How It Spreads
The plague passes between pawns that travel together in the same party. If one infected pawn joins you, the others can catch it.

Why It Appears More Often Now
The Lost Rites push players into the Unmoored World, so more pawns rest there and more players meet the plague. Expect it to appear more often after the expansion starts. Update 2024 lowered how often pawns get infected, so the rate is lower than at the base game launch.
How to Lower the Risk
Check each pawn from the Rift before you bring it into your party. Look at the eyes, the behavior, and the status screen. Remove an infected temporary pawn before you rest.
Casual Difficulty
On casual difficulty, pawns recover from the plague on their own, and no calamity occurs, even at the last stage. If you want to avoid the mechanic in full, play on casual.
