Stronghold Crusader 2 Shows Female Sultana Opponent
Female representation is on the rise. Stronghold Crusader 2 shows this in the form of the Sultana.

Developer Firefly Studios released a developer diary for Stronghold Crusader 2 where it discusses a new character in the game. It will add female representation to its latest strategy title with the Sultana, an Arab overlord that will oppose the crusaders in their quest.
Firefly Studios wants to represent the Sultana a freedom fighter, since the Arabs are essentially driving back the invading crusaders in the Middle Ages. That whole promised land of Jerusalem is still giving us problems today, but it certainly wasn’t the home of some bored, rich white dudes that wanted something to do, like collect a mystical grail or something. We’re not super good on our history.
Anyway, the knights are the bad guys and the Arab warriors are the ones holding them off, under leadership of Sultana. One of the favored units under the captain’s watch are the stealthy assassins. These soldiers can become invisible to opposing players and take advantage of their cloaked ways in several scenarios. It’s either possible to keep the assassins under wraps until the castle walls are taken down by siege weapons to then swoop in or you can let them scale walls and try to infiltrate camps undetected.
In turn, crusaders can counter assassins by either putting up archers on walls as spotters or fire randomly into incoming troops, in hopes of flushing out the invisible characters taking damage in the process. Additionally, depending on the garrison stationed at Arab camps, it’s wiser to either go with pikemen on the frontline to thwart fast horsemen or put up heavily armored knights in the case of faster assassins trying to cut through defenses.
While the Sultana is a female character in Stonghold Crusader 2, they’re not actually playable, but serve as an enemy only. So, we’re not quite there yet if we want to get bragging rights for inclusion. Baby steps.
