Breathedge 2 Guide | How to Upgrade Your Tools

Tool upgrades in Breathedge 2 use physical components that you find while exploring rather than traditional level upgrades. Useful early parts such as the Gear and Scissors can be recovered from wreckage and installed at the Blueprint Bench to improve compatible tools such as the Scrap, Cutter, and Thumper.

Find Tool Upgrade Parts

Search the wreckage around the area for small red hatches. Grapple onto these panels and pull them open to reveal items stored inside.

One hatch can contain a Gear along with Plastic, while another can contain Scissors. Similar upgrade components can be found in other locations as you continue exploring.

Continue checking nearby red hatches rather than stopping after the first one. Scissors are another important early upgrade because they work with more than one tool.

Return to the Blueprint Bench

Take the upgrade components back to your base and interact with the Blueprint Bench. Select the tool you want to improve and open its available upgrade slot.

For the Scrap, install the Gear in its compatible Heft slot. The Gear adds +10 damage. A rarer Barbell Plate can also be used as a Heft upgrade and provides +20 damage.

Upgrade the Cutter or Thumper

Scissors are an Edge upgrade that can be installed on either the Cutter or the Thumper. On the Cutter, Scissors add +5 damage. On the Thumper, they add +12 damage.

Because one physical component cannot be attached to two tools at the same time, choose the tool that benefits your current exploration needs.

Another Edge component, Jaws, provides a stronger upgrade. Jaws add +10 damage to the Cutter or +15 damage to the Thumper.

Save Useful Upgrade Components

Some components can also be used elsewhere. A Gear, for example, has uses beyond the Scrap upgrade, so consider whether you need it for another machine before installing it.

Upgrade parts can significantly reduce the time required to break objects or harvest materials, which is especially useful when oxygen limits how long you can remain away from safety.
